Default Finally back "in the game". Sort of.

The last few years haven't been good to me, recording wise. I've moved several times and had to make do with whatever space I had, which often wasn't much at all. The past 1.5 years I've been in a house so small I didn't even have room to set up my gear, until last month when I was able to remodel a little.

So I got my drummer over on Sunday and we recorded. I haven't tracked drums in over a year and a half! For this session the drums were in my living room which, while small, has wood floors and and irregular shape.

I put the mics in a basic Glyn Johns type set up, with a kick and snare mic. I also, for fun, put up a blumlein pair of Cascade fatheads in my kitchen, about 10' from the kit.

The OH mics were Studio Projects B1 mics. Snare was SM57, and kick was D112.

Very low budget.

And I'll be damned if it wasn't the coolest rock drum sound I've ever gotten. Between the Glyn Johns method and the room (and the kit), these were the brightest, punchiest drums I've ever tracked.

More to follow later, including samples.

Welcome back! Can't wait to hear the drum clips... I love it when magic happens unexpectedly.
