Hi all,
Would someone in the know be kind enough to post advice, tips and/or pointers to guidelines with regards to keeping/making mixes work on mono systems such as mono club rigs etc. I've tried searching online but can't really find anything? Things of most concern are wide pads, lead synths and maybe basslines that have a mono sub but high frequency stereo layer(s) Would be very much appreciated |

im just relaying this, but if you get a stereo>mono plug or something like a mackie bigknob which has the feature, initiate it and just listen out for phasing sounds that cancel i believe? may be im wrong though?

Thanks Sureno.
I've actually just always tried to stay clear of Stereo Enhancers and panning too aggresively with 'Mono' in mind but never really paid much attention to checking my finished mixes in mono. However, yesterday my TC Electronic Konnekt 6 arrived from DV (which i'm very pleased with! It's a great little interface!) and it has a 'Mono' button so whilst in my current project (which is almost finished) I hit the Mono button and everything seemed pretty much ok ![]() I just wondered if there were any specific techniques that the pro's use during mixing, maybe on certain things like wide synth leads and pads etc. to stop them disappearing on mono playback? Cheers Andy |

Most producers will keep the main elements fairly central to ensure a good level of mono compatability. It is normally placement effects such as reverb and delay that are used to add space...that are lost when going down to mono.
It's also for this reason why sampling from vinyl tends to work better in mono as well. Unless the distortion is present on both sides of the groove wall. It's helped me no end with some vinyl I've been sampling from.. Even after denoising and declicking you could still hear some. But soloing and then deleting the noisy side works wonders ! |
