I downloaded the Sonar 8 Trial from Cakewalk site last night (and the two updates). So I'll post back with a verdict when I've given it a right good seeing too.
Hopefully it'll run alot better and with less glitches than Sonar 7. It seems that you are either one of the lucky ones that gets no glitches or you are like me and find the hundreds of weird and wonderfull glitches too much to bear. Good luck Cakewalk because as much as I like Sonar, until it works I'll never buy it again. I will say though, that as a company, I like Cakewalk's style, this trial is a fully functional (including saving projects) version but without a lot of the bundled fx/vsti (apart from the new ones to trial). It lasts for 30 days but you must register within 15 day grace period (whatever TF that means). I just wish they'd release a version called Sonar Bugfix version, then I'd use it all the time. For those who wish to indulge here is the link to the trial version http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/kb20081217.asp and the updates (essential for CW products) http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/SONAR/default.asp |

Good luck with the trial.
PM Monarch or IABP on Sonar...they sound like they have it working well. Or post something that would drag them into an informative discussion. Monarch has been too quite lately...maybe he's bugfixing! ![]() ______________________________

I've been over at the Cakewalk forum and it seems that some people get bugs and some don't. Its usually blamed on a hardware issue, although no-one can tell you what hardware is the problem.
I sound like I'm bashing Sonar but I'm not. I love the app I just wish I was one of the ones who could use it without error. Its frustrating as hell. I'm hoping that, through luck rather than anything more, when I use 8 it will be as sound as a pound. That has happened to me in the past a new version has solved all my issues while giving them to someone else. I've read alot over there that some users who were really happy with 7 have experienced alot of bugs with 8. I'm hoping the reverse will be true for me! It's the nature of PC's I suppose with all the different hardware. But that doesn't make me feel better tbh. Anyway, I'm hoping to post an objective review soon |

If you do go Mac you HAVE to go Logic. Now there is an app!
TBH I only upgraded from Logic 5 about a year ago! That was only because it couldn't handle dual cores or much RAM. Apart from that it was a workhorse, stable as a rock. I don't really wanna upgrade but if its the only way I can get a tune out then so be it! I haven't used my DAW since well before Christmas because I just got fed up with the issues. I do get to dally with Logic Studio quite regularly though as a few mates have it and it is simply top class. I might wirte a song called "Steve Jobbs Nicked My App" ![]() |

Sonar 7 from the perspective of MY PC and MY experience has been convicted such . Far too buggy on my pc. If I could get some stability out of it I would be overjoyed with the app. I admit I am angry because of that. That said, I'm still hoping that 8 imprioves this, I have to say, that first run and it is working fine. I imported an old Sonar 7 song and the my processor dropped from ave. 12% to ave 8%. I'm running about 6 VSTi(one of which is Battery3 playing about 12 sampled drums one is Massive which is a bitch on your chip) 4 mono 2 stereo and three stereo audio tracks 4 stereo delays, a compressor, a reverb and a few eq's. It is now looping without a glitch (which was a MAJOR gripe before). So far its running fine and that is with the same settings imported straight from Sonar 7. The Step Sequencer has stopped going into the twilight zone long enough for me to get a beat going too. I've only as of now seen one of the old glitches occur, which is one block of midi, when deleted, still shows the block in the arrange window. It doesn't play it just, won't go away! In Sonar 7, this is one of the myriad of weird glitches that were happening probably every two clicks of a mouse. That is HUGELY frustrating at got me to the point where I couldn't even get near to finishing a song. I haven't used my DAW for 4-6 weeks because I didn't have a clue how to solve it. I hadn't even activated my operating system for about 6 months because I was re-installing too often to need to bother. I wasn't dissing Sonar at all I like their business model and their ideas. |
