Default Low End guitars/bass?!

Hi,

How do I go about tightening up low end guitars/bass in heavymetal songs?
I am thinking of stuff like Sevendust, Forever Never, Fear Factory.

How do I tighten up the sound but still give it lots of impact? I am using Pro Tools LE 8 along with POD FARM and TH1 Overloud. 5 string bass and Ibanez 7 string.

Hope someone can give some pointers?

Cheers!

my only advice would be less is more, listen to some other rock albums, ace of spades for instance, nice clear guitars, albit they are rather loud buit id start from there.

Sorry, missed this one first time around. I have to say that using emulations of guitar amps is just not the same thing. At this stage while plugins arent bad for emulating amps on solos etc they still aren't there for heavy rhythm guitar. Stick a mic in front of your amp and you'll find an instant improvement on the material you are trying to mix. There's really no alternative.

Other than that I cant really make any suggestions without hearing your material. If you can provide a link I'd be happy to listen and see if I can give you any pointers.
