It does indeed sound surprisingly good... as long as you use the built in mics... trying to record from the line in is a bit pants unless you can run the input signal through a passive attenuator first, otherwise the inputs overload far too easily and distort horribly.

Good analogy. I'd say from a distance it even looks like a shaver.

Have never tried the line-in, personally, didn't see the point (it's unbalanced, no?) - so there you go.

Using the built-in mic is the way I'd go...apart from the quality of the audio, portability would become more cumbersome if an external mic is also to be carried.

Actually, regarding the audio, I don't imagine myself using what I'd record in a project. I know I'd only use it as a reference and re-record the material properly when at home.

No comments from any iPod or iPhone users then?
Does their silence mean it's not a viable option?

Must mean T3's suggestion is the best then!

I had the same problem ages ago. Never quite found an answer... i often sung/hummed/tapped onto my phone recorder just to recreate when i got home. 'Tho, when i did get home, i used to just cringe at the awful recording of me trying to hum a tune from my head.

The iPhone seems a good choice, just down to the multi-purpose aspect. But, can be another one to recommend the H2!
