Hullo there.I just joined.
I'd really appreciate any help over this. I have a Taylor semi-acoustic and for a quick simple vocals/accompaniment practice I put it through my Motu 828Pre.Sing with headphones.I use Logic 8 Pro. I get this awful fizzing squeezy sound. It's like it sounds when the battery goes. I checked everything but the guitar is fine through amps and other equipment. When I plug my electric guitars into the same Motu input.. I have no problem. Sometimes the fizzing goes away though.I've had a better result with the pad switch on but the fizz still returns.I dunno ? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.I know I will be mic'ing it up in the end. It has me flummoxed. The Taylor has a great pre-amp too.It sounds great through the amp. Sorry about the verbosity.Am I not supposed to plug an electro-acoustic into an audio-interface ? Thanks |

Could be due to the impedance from the guitars pickup, are you having to crank the gain on the input to get a good level ? either that or some crazy ground loop, is this being recorded to PC tower or laptop?

It's going into an Apple Mac Pro.
I only bought the gear a month ago from DV. Today, something new happened.Even with the volume on the MOTU channel all the way down...I was getting a level of the guitar's signal. I don't understand it.When I first plug in...the fizzy squeak noise is there at any volume. Then if I wait, it goes away but returns. |

hi Strum
I think the Taylor semi-acoustic likely has a low impedance pickup. The Motu 8Pre has combined mic/instrument inputs XLR/TRS combo connectors. It expects low impedance XLR plugs and high impedance quarter inch instrument plugs. If you have not already tried it then maybe it is worth trying to connect with an XLR cable instead of 1/4 inch instrument plug. Assuming it is a quarter inch instrument plug that goes in to your guitar then you would need a cable that goes from quarter inch plug to XLR male. Something like this; DCS Pro XLR(M) to TRS jack, 3m at DV247.COM I hope I've made some kind of sense. The following caveats are true; It is late. I have been drinking. I have never met a Motu 8Pre in person. |
