Well like you say we could be blowing it on drink, drugs, or sex...not much rock n roll!
I don't spend much but when I spend I spend big. My mrs has got used to me forking out the likes of €1200 on a bass for example when what we really need is an extra room in the appartment! But hey...what's more important, right? ![]() ______________________________

Yeah...look, the HEDD is a great investment and it'll definitely play nice with the SV, but T3 is waving a viable caution flag. Sure you wouldn't rather start off with something like an RNC/RNLA combo? You can use either of those on vocals, drums, bass, or the mix buss...I do it all the time. Then get a DBX 160 or two for vocals and bass...throw in an ART Pro VLA and a rack to put 'em in and you have something like what I'm looking at to my left right now. It's pretty killer. Sure, I'd love a HEDD but I don't *need* it. Maybe throw in a hardware reverb like a Yamaha Rev5, a Kurzweil Rumour or a Lexicon PC80 and things really start to get interesting. Upgrade your converters...love my SSL XLogic Alpha Link converters...24 channels for $3,000 or so plus the RME interface card ($600) or so.
Just some other options to consider.. ______________________________

I'm with T3 and Frank dude. While the HEDD is awesome other things will make a bigger difference. Adding a little tape and tube to your mix bus but the difference is really minute when compared to what , say and RNLA will do for you. You could pick up an RNLA and a decent enough EQ for much less. Heck if you really want to spend that kind of money on your bus get yourself an API 2500 or a dramastic obsidian and a good EQ. The difference these will make to you will be eyepopping compared to the subtlety of the HEDD.

Just a thought - if your going to be bouncing out to external hardware - what audio interface are you using?
Just might make sense to ensure that isnt going to be negating any benefits of good external processing. |

WOW, well thanks for ALL the input guys, after reading each post i think well i know i will go for the RNLA and Khazul sent me an audio clip a/b'ing the spl vitalizer i will be getting one of these in addition. Frank i will stay away from reverb and such effects as im mainly looking for overall processers on my 2 bus mix. so having chosen 2 units il get to know these and see how they work for me, i think with the money i will save from not getting the HEDD i will most definately put towards acoustic treatment sooner.
again guys thanks for all the great feedback ______________________________

This is a great thread...I'm watching from the sidelines but getting great ideas.
Can I ask...don't both the RNC and the RNLA do the same thing or am I missing something? Is the combination of the two to have more options? ______________________________

Don't forget the humble DBX 160...it's the best compressor I know of under $300 for vocals. To do better you'd spent 8 times. Frank ______________________________

but do you think what you deem good for metal and indie will also prove to have the same effect on electronic music? or is a good unit a good unit for any genre?
