As a plugin, it would lose its uniqueness. I maintain my view that by being a slightly restricted sequencer, it has a good niche in the market. Although that position is slowly being shared with Live. They are both good tools for me, but work so much better when you have other options to rewire them to.

Reason as a plugin would still be unique and you'll still buy refills for it (so nobody would be effected) , it would just get rid of rewire which would speed up work flow.

The reason i dont use reason now is because i find rewire too daunting to use (Rewire never worked propely when i used reason/cubase) however as a plugin id reach for reason all the time .. but sadly its not and probebly never will be.

Because of the issues i had with cubase sx2 / sx3 & cubase 4 ive not even bothered trying rewiring reason in logic.

My issue

If your just scraping the surface and want to rewire a full stereo track from Reason to Cubase via Reasons hardware output 1 & 2 then that is fine it works perfectly.

The issues appear when you want to rewire individual Reason devices to Cubase to add third party effects using outputs 3 and onwards.

All the reason devices are stereo apart from subtractor which is mono.

so for example if i try to rewire a malstrom device into cubase via reasons output 3 & 4 , cubase see's Malstrom as 2 separate devices and automatically makes 2 channels strips for it (one for the left channel and one for the right channel) , instead of just making one channel strip per device which is highly annoying and you find yourself having to "Group" left & right channels just to add third party effects

so if you rewire a full reason rack to cubase you end up with 2 channel strips per reason device in cubases mixer then have to group every pair , which makes the whole rewire lark very daunting indeed.

which is why id prefer Reason as a plugin.

I sold Reason a few months back merely because I didn't use it after I bought Cubase. I do miss it as it's so quick to get stuff down in Reason. I also LOVED the reverb unit in Reason (REV7 or something), it sounded incredible. Even that's been rreplaced by the awesome Sanford Reverb in Cubase now though. I still rate Redrum as an excellent way of getting drum ideas down as well.

Maybe Record will tickle your fancy then.

I don't use Reason much, but I have it there just in case! It's really quick like you said. I know it has many critics, but I love!

I think i'm going to stick with one piece of software for now, I can dig more than enough holes for myself in Cubase without trying to learn yet another way of working as well

I do miss Thor as well

I remember this from Cubase/PC days. Unfortunately, I never found a way around it.

In Logic, you can work with mono strips from Reason. Altho everytime I open Reason I'm terrified I'll suffer a repeat of what happend a few months back...Rewiring sent all of Logic's internal routing into freefall..

Only host Ive used with a decent rewire implementation is Ableton Live.
