Hi Again

Thanks for the reply,I don't think Stand Alone Option was available when I installed it,it's the software version only, but I will check.

Zimmer is parked in the corner, like me,it dosen't move very often.

Ta Much

Should be standalone as well - mine is software only
Most NI are standalone and 'ew' states they should be run first as a standalone

As it was working in Sonar then there should be no real connection between that and your problem but best to do it anyway

It has to be a set up problem. Guitar Rig is only an effect placed on a dry signal
I don't know anything about Pro Tools and how it works.

Whoopy do,it's getting better.

I found out how to run it in Stand Alone and both Sonar and Digidesign drivers are listed in GR3 Setup.

It has defaulted to Sonar Asio

I chose the Digi driver and ran PT8,I still need to do some configuring but the result was much better, another part of the problem is M-Audio's mixer software that comes with the Profire 610.

I think I'm on the right track, thanks for the pointer.

My current signal chain is as follows.

Guitar (Custom Shop Strat Dave.LOL)goes into Vox Tonelab - output from tonelab goes into Zoom 2200 -L/R output from 2200 goes into into the Line Inputs on the rear of the Profire.
The 8 Analogue outputs go to the 4 stereo input pairs on my Soundcraft M4 Mixer.
In Pro Tools,I need to choose the correct routing, which is where I think I was going wrong.

I have a pre-mixed stereo backing track which I put in track 1 in PT8.
Create an Audio track for my guitar, now the problems start.

I can't hear what I play until I arm the track, and it sounds OK.
When I hit Play and Record,it sounds awful.

Track settings for the backing track are
Input 1/2 - Output 1/2

Guitar Track Settings
Input 3/4
Output 5/6

Apart from the volume being a bit low, this seems to be OK

I used to have the following

Backing Track

Input 1/2
Output 1/2

Guitar Track

Input 1/2
Output 1/2

That sounded awful,I think I was somehow creating a feedback loop internally,it sounded terrible.

If with this info you can come up with a different solution I would be grateful.

By the way,I already tried the front inputs L/R but this way seems to work, for now.

Thanks for your patience.

Alan
I agree you have routing issues.

Your first approach (this one):

Quote:
Track settings for the backing track are
Input 1/2 - Output 1/2

Guitar Track Settings
Input 3/4
Output 5/6

Apart from the volume being a bit low, this seems to be OK
was problematic because the outputs of the guitar track should also have been 1-2 out of PT (and 1/2 out should feed your monitors)

Your second approach (this one):

Quote:
I used to have the following

Backing Track

Input 1/2
Output 1/2

Guitar Track

Input 1/2
Output 1/2
Was also problematic as you have the same inputs (1/2) feeding different tracks

Try putting your backing track into 1/2 in and 1/2out

put your guitar track into 3 in (if it's a mono track) or 3/4 in (if it's stereo) but, like the other track, feed it to 1/2 out (ie your monitor outs).

Hopefully this should fix it. Let me know if it doesnt.

Hello Trev

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, you will be pleased to know that I have had some success.
This is what I have done.

For Recording

Backing Track in 1/2 out 1/2
Track 2 Guitar in 1/2 out 3/4

Profire Mixer Settings

Analog Out Sliders 1/2 Up Software Return Sliders 1/2 Up
Analog Out 3/4 Sliders Down

Playback

Analog Out Sliders 1/2 and 3/4 Up

I have also taken the L/R output from the Zoom 2200 and put them into Inputs 1 & 2 on the front of the Profire 610

This arrangement seems to be a vast improvement on what I had before.
Once again,thanks for your input.
If it all goes pear shaped for whatever reason,I may just come back.

Right, now to try Guitar Rig 3 huh!
