Default Profire 610 & Windows SP2

Hi All

My newly acquired M-Audio Profire 610 works fine with Sonar 8,but on trying to use it with Pro Tools 8 I get the "Can't find Hardware" message.

It was suggested that I need to run Windows Service Pack 3 and use the appropriate driver but,as I can't run SP3 on my computer that's not much use.

Can anyone tell me if this info is true, surely there must be users using SP2 without problems.

Thanks

Alan

Well I have now installed XP service pack 3 as per the tech support guy from M-Audio said, but now Pro Tools won't load,it hangs when it gets to Loading Plug-in Expand.
I am thinking Pro tools dosen't like my Firewire connection on the computer, even though it is a T.I chipset, but I don't get an error message saying no hardware found.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Take Xpand out of your plug-in folder for now and see if Pro Tools will continue to load.

There's an updater to Xpand 1.0.1 on this page here: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...51&itemid=4784 - just in case you don't have it already. Might solve the problem.

Makes no difference,still won't load.

Going to format the drive and start again,it's obvious there is something wrong after upgrading to SP3.

You've definitely loaded the Profire 610 Protools SP3 driver?

if you reformat and put sp3 on before protools it should be ok?
i did this a couple of weeks ago, my problem now is power spikes and latency which were never there before.

Well I have tried everything I can think of,and it still won't run.
Yes,I formatted and loaded XP SP3,but I still have the same problem.

It created an exception file which I have put here

http://www.4shared.com/get/106390992...401870000.html

If anyone can make any sense out of it I would love to hear from you.

I have just about given up,I installed a Belkin 3 port firewire card today and that made no difference,Sonar 8 runs perfectly, which only frustrates even more.

Could be wrong here but looks like the main issue is with the driver. is this the latest version ? if it is maybe try an older version if you can find one and if its old then maybe try a slightly newer one. i tend to find that brand new drivers still usually have some buggy effects at times.

There are 2 drivers available.

The 5076 is for Windows SP2

The 5080 is for Windows SP3

I have tried both and neither work.

That's the one you will need - the other will never be the right one - if you're using Pro Tools, which requires SP3, as is the case in this instance.

Hard to know where to go with this other than to start from scratch - I'd load the driver before Pro Tools. I'd check the sound card is working before you load Pro Tools, which you can do.

You could check now that the soundcard works outside of Pro Tools. That'll rule out the driver and card being funny and therefore you will know it's an issue with Pro Tools picking it up.

That would require an uninstall and re-install of Pro Tools or some assistance from someone who knows Pro Tools who may able to guide you as to why it's not picking up the driver.

Is your Profire 610 set to come on when you boot up?

Yes,you got it.

I cleared out everything to do with Pro Tools and M-Audio and did a clean install from scratch.
This time I used the XP SP 3 driver,(5080),even though I am running XP SP2and it works.

I don't know why it worked, but it has loaded.

Tomorrow,we will see if it records, once I've worked out how to connect it to my mixer.

Thanks
