Default ive just bought Digidesign Pro Tools Personal Studio Bundle

ive finally took the plunge and ordered the top deal dv247 are doing ..Digidesign Pro Tools Personal Studio Bundle http://www.dv247.com/invt/49282/

ive not used le8 before the only version i used of protools was years ago when it first came out and i hated it then because the midi side was terrible but for the past day or two ive been reading up on how le8 is supposed to be amazing and theyve sorted out the midi side and its got great plug ins.

i just wanted to know whats the differences between all the versions of pro tools ..who uses the le versions and do they like it and any other general info they can give me about starting out in pro tools..im a cubase boy at heart and im still gonna be using cubase 5 on the same pc will this be ok with no conflicts?

Welcome to the dark side.

LE = Digidesign hardware required. No iLok required for the application. This is the most expandable non-TDM version, you can add the (expensive) DV Toolkit 2 or Complete Production Toolkit if you need the features they offer (post-production and surround production are the key ones, respectively)

M-Powered = M-Audio hardware required (limited list, not ALL interfaces will run it) plus an iLok key required for the application license.

HD = the daddy. TDM-hardware based, guaranteed track counts and the potential to use HD/TDM plug-ins which are DSP-powered by the cards. Expensive, but this is the pro solution. Requires a lot of proprietary hardware, although converters now are available from 3rd parties.

I use LE, it's the best balance between the session sizes I need to deal with and price. I may yet go HD someday, but we'll see. I do use the DV Toolkit 2 though to deal with my post-production requirements.

I'm a Mac guy as you know but I've heard of no huge issues running both DAWs on your system.

Do yourself a favour and go to http://www.masseyplugins.com as well and get the free versions of his plug-ins right away. Then, when you can afford it, buy the full versions!

I'm an HD user. To be frank, the differences are fairly negligible in both applications (I was running HD and LE in different rooms until recently) aside from the ones T3 has mentioned and automatic delay compensation which you don't get anywhere except HD (though apparently mellowmuse have a neat plugin solution which, incidentally, you get free witha UAD 2 card)

Cool waxxy!

I ordered my 003 Rack yesterday and am looking forward to getting stuck into PTLE8...it looks like we will need a support group! Luckily we have the likes of T3 and Trev aboard to get us afloat!

Enjoy you new toys! Will be bouncing questions around in no time.
