Digidesign have announced the 003 Rack+ Factory

DV have dropped the price of the 003 Rack Factory in light of this announcement by 25%

Looks like 003 Rack is being discontunued so the 003 Rack Factory is now available for the price of the 003 Rack

Pricing of the 003 Rack+ Factory is tbc. 003 Rack+ Factory will ship before the end of the year.

Just waiting to find out if the Pro Tools 8 upgrade is FREE for anyone who buys 003 Rack Factory (with 25% discount) from today - let's hope so

And I see DV have an offer with Command 8 and 003.

Is it a good way to get into PT? Has anyone got comments on the system to sway me one way or the other?

That combo is about as good as it gets for LE. The new 003R+ only adds four more pres, so unless you need those for tracking large numbers of sources at once (they're not what you'd call awesome pres, mind) then the existing 003 + Command|8 is a good deal.

I'd be shocked - SHOCKED if you didn't get a free upgrade to PT8 as well. Digi historically has been very good about that if you buy a box which includes a previous version but after the new version has been announced or released.

It's wise to note that the 003, sonically, is nowhere near the top of the heap when it comes to interfaces. It's probably somewhere in the middle, actually - you can do worse, but you can do much better. Importantly though it's got enough digital ins n' outs that you can change your converters (in a limited sense) later on and you're always free to use the mic amps of your choice, so you can actually slowly build a pretty nice rig around it.

The Command|8 integrates with Pro Tools exceptionally well. Although it provides a monitoring section as well I wouldn't recommend using it, it's noisy. It's difficult to get it to work well (at least in my experience) with other apps, though - it does have a 'standalone midi controller' mode but it's tricky to program and tricky to use.

All told, if you need/want PTLE and need the maximum number of I/O it can offer this is a great setup with a nice control surface at a price you'll not see it at again..!

You have a 003 Paul, how do you find it? Do you use PT LE much?

only really use PT for mixing down on but since logic, not used it as much however i use the 003 as my main audio interface
