Default fender precision prices

why have the prices for the US fender precision basses gone up from 869 to over a grand? Similarly the mexican ones have gone right up from 399 - I was just about to buy one!

Is it the same everywhere? If so, i would hang fire for a bit and they will probably drop agaim9. Always pays to shop around and request a price match too.

Sometimes prices are pretty erratic. I just noticed the Fender baja telecaster Guitar i was looking at only a few weeks ago has gone up from 460 to 553.

I'll need to have a look at the other things i've been intending to buy to see how much they have risen, if at all. Some things seem to be no different.

That Tele seems to be the only thing that has gone up, on my shopping list anyway. Komplete 7, EH Small clone, Mackie Control Universal, Really nice Preamp....all the same price as before the VAT rise. I really don't understand how it works.

I did however notice the Boss Blues Driver pedal i bought just a couple of days before the VAT rise has gone from 67, to 69 to 71.

Hell knows, i suppose it's your Donald duck wether something you wanted has gone up or not.

I can only assume they haven't applied the rise across the board but rather added extra onto some items to compensate not adding it to others. I could be completely wrong though.

It looks like there was a bit of a reduction on some P-bass models in December only... since VAT has gone back up the price of everything has gone back up (I suspect the 870-esque pricing was only temporary). The 'over-a-grand' price is actually the day-to-day price in the UK on most models if you shop around...

I read recently that Fender in general has increased prices across the board again too so expect that the current prices may not even be as high as they'll get...

Yeah I read somewhere a couple of months ago that fender was pushing up prices in the new year.

As an aside, look out for a japanese one. They tend to be much better value as the usa ones and just as well made.

Looks like they definitely have pushed them up Trev, by quite a bit in some cases. Does anyone know the reason? Increased manufacturing/shipping costs? Knew the VAT rise would push them up a small bit but not as much as they seem to have gone up.

We get severely shafted in this country.

Pays to shop around mind you, it appears some places haven't implemented the rise.

Fender goes through cycles of raising/cutting prices... they're fairly volatile, actually. Sometimes they threaten the price rises well in advance to scare people into buying up old models, sometimes prices come down on older models if they want to clear them. It's a fairly unfocused strategy but I guess it's working for them.

Baja Telecasters have always been underpriced in the UK compared to the US for whatever reason... there was a time when they were 475ish here and $1,000 over there (and remember the UK price was with tax and the US without). They've adjusted a bit recently though - higher priced here, cheaper over there, so a lot of this stuff just looks like a correction.

It's also possible that there was just a bit of a dealer price war over Christmas and the recent push upwards is more of a reality adjustment.

We do indeed get stiffed over here though. I was looking at the BIAS Peak Studio upgrade - BIAS will sell it direct to their US customers for $99. To buy it here (and it's a digital download as well, so no physical product, all ends up on the BIAS site anyway) costs 116 from the UK distributor (BIAS will not fulfill orders from the UK directly). That works out to be almost 80% more expensive for exactly the same product registered and downloaded in exactly the same fashion. The only difference is a stupid UK middleman that I don't need because when I need support etc I have to go to BIAS anyway. Fail.

ah..I see today there's a couple of new 'american special' precision and jazz bass etc for 799 - difference seems to be the precision has a slimmer neck, dunno about the jazz - might have a tryout..

Not a bad thing at all. The standard neck on a precision is like a plank of bloody wood (which is why mine has long had a geddy jazz neck)
