Default whats your biggest purchase disapointment?

whats the one thing you thought you really needed for your studio you bought it then wished youd saved the money and bought something else?

mine was the novation remote zero sl ..i read all the reviews and it made it out too be this all singing machine that could do anything and i was originally saving up for the tascam fws but then i saw the reviews and thought ok ill get this instead ..its got faders its got drum pads ill be ok..

got it home powered it up ..loved the lcd screens ..loved the knobs..tried the drum pads ..useless i was hitting those pads like tyson and they wouldnt respond how i wanted so i went into the set up set the velocitys to max hit the pads still hit and miss so i went on the net and found out loads more had the same problem ..apparently the triggers are bang in the center and there not sensitive enough to pick up some places hit on the pads

then i tried the faders ..first of all there not responsive enough you move the faders and the values jump like mad also the faders are too small to be of any real use..

in future im not gonna believe any reviews i read im gonna goto the store and try it out properly in fact i think i may try drive to dv247 in birmingham next time i have a big purchase

I was actually going to buy the zero SL for Live dj'ing, however that plan was put on hold as the money is now going towards the virus.
Interesting read tho waxxy, first time I seen someone disappointed with one.

As for me, well I wouldnt go as far to say I was disappointed with it, actually im quite happy with it but one of the reasons I bought my Axiom 49 was for the rotaries, faders and trigger pads. The pads and faders are fine, but the rotaries are completely useless, havnt found a single application where they work correctly.

the rotarys work fine with vsts..in fact i bet thats why novation stopped making the remote zero sl and made the nocturn..the nocturn is much more stable in fact i wish i had one of those instead.

Apart from that minor moan I cant think of any other product ive bought that I wasnt happy with....... but thats probably due to me spending far too much of my time researching before parting with my cash lol

always thought the faders on the zero were far too small looking, never tried one out tho

I haven't bought any music tech related thing and been disappointed really. There's always a few issues with things but nothing to make me disappointed.

Really? I bought an Oxygen 49 (didn't have enough money for the Axiom) and everything is fine. The rotaries, faders, buttons, everything. I'm using Reason 4 though which has a driver to integrate M Audio stuff into it...

Tascam TM-D4000 digital mixer with input cards and meterbridge.

I loved the layout and how the mixer side of it worked but had lots of problems getting it to play nice with my DAW. Eventually I give up on it and just used it as a multi input dac to route synths into the pc and mixed in the cubase.

BIAS Deck.

Needed a quick and fairly inexpensive surround DAW solution at the time, and I was a fan of Peak, so thought it would be a good choice. It was doing sound for picture so the lack of 24 bit support at the time was fine.

Little did I know that it was pretty much OS9 code that had been hastily updated to OSX - and never worked right. Buggy, crashy, you name it.

BIAS is still selling it, even though it doesn't really function correctly on any modern incarnation of OSX - it certainly won't run on Leopard.

It's too bad because their other products are excellent, they just seem to have left this one behind for reasons we'll never know. Would have been nice for them to continue with it, I think the DAW field always needs competition, if only to drive innovation.

The difference between the oxygen and the axiom is that the axiom has endless rotaries, but no matter where i have tried them the midi control signals dont really feedback correctly what your doing. I would have much prefered if they had just used the rotaries off the oxygen tbh

Access virus C , coming from a softsynth background i just found a hardware synth a pain in the ass ... cables , no instant recall having to remember setting for projects you started weeks before , just pure hassle .... if your from a software background i found hardware synths a step backwards rather than forwards

The M-Audio NRV10 is mine. Why? Because there's no Vista 64bit drivers yet, so I can't use it.

Vista64. Which was released, hmm, November 2006?

Mine's a Boss Dr-670 never used it for 2 years and then sold it. Sounded rubbish when compared to drums from Smokers Relight!

RedDavid, I would be seriously pissed if I were you, thats a pisstake!

Have you tried enrolling in their beta program? They apparently released a beta test version of the NRV10 Vista64 driver on March 25, 2008, but only available for people who become a member of the Vista 64-Bit Beta driver group.

I've sent an application in, flashing all my software dev and muso credentials where I could, but even if they do accept me, I'm still looking at several weeks of waiting and faxing NDA acceptance contracts to them.

And, yeah - faxing. D'you think they were so shaken up by the events of September 11th that they made a company-wide decision not to set foot any further in any regard into this scary new millennium of terrorists, wars, climate change, third world poverty, email and new operating systems, or something?

Requiring a signed copy to be posted or faxed is what I would generally expect from any company asking for a non-disclosure agreement. An NDA is a legal contract so I am not surprised they ask for a faxed copy.
