Hey guys
How 'bout you get posting some images of your studio environment and maybe list your kit (hardware and software) that you use.. It'd be great to see what your creative room looks like and know what music-tech floats your boat - Who knows, we might be making this a main Forum in itself?! ______________________________

Excellent thread... nothing like a good bit of self indulgent boasting! I have so much equipment that I probably shouldn't post pictures. Maybe I'll post a couple. As for equipment I mostly collect very strange bits and bobs, mostly old recording devices of any description. My preferred method of recording is to an old Tascam MS16 1" but the cost of tape is so extremely prohibitive I very rarely do anymore. Even when I use computer I mix down to a Revox PR99 mk3.
Ok so here's a list of stuff that I can remember that gets lots of use in my home setup.... Computer (custom quad core) running Samplitude/Sequoia and Ableton Live More plugins than can be tastefully listed Fireface 800 Tannoy reveal's Oxygen 49 SM PRO M patch 2 ATH M50 headphones Edirol M100FX (for a few summing purposes) Loads of cheap tape machines like Akai 4000 etc... Technics 1210 mk2 MPC2000XL Akai S3000 (pimped version) An old soundcraft 16 channel desk Roland JX3P Other old keyboards of various uselessness A few old guitar amps (hohner orgaphon anyone?) Epiphone valve junior head (awesome!) A laney amp used as a speaker loaded with celestion G12S Lots of cheap percussion and homemade percussive items A rack full of effects like: Frontline delay/chorus/expander Aphex distortion box from the 80s DBX 163X x2 DBX 160a TLaudio FAT1 UA Solo 610 Analog delays/reverbs... Roland RE 501 space echo Old stomp boxes like boss ce1 tokai metal driver (despite its name its an ibanez 808 clone but with extra features) electro harmonix memory man ibanez standard fuzz Budda Wah Sansamp original old phasers, flangers etc by various suspect brands. mic highlights: loads of cheap, crappy mics that when coupled with an old tape machine make some serious drum break candy... Karma K6 Karma K35 Rode K2 U87 AT4033 MXL990 (actually not very good) SM7B RE20 AKG 421 AKG C414 SM57/58 MD 421 takstar £2 pencil condenser that sounds bad in a good way old reslo ribbon INSTRUMENTS: conn Bb/f trombone beat up green squier strat epiphone sheraton some sg copy hohner te prinz old washburn acoustic mexican fender jazz bass reissue pbass there's plenty of stuff that I have forgotten I'm sure... and yes there is lots of hiss on my records. ______________________________

Hey all,
Here's my place - took 3 months of design research and a year to build (me and other half did the lot!) - converted a farm building in Bedfordshire just off A1 Bedford/St Neots way. Only been open a couple of months so still smells new! Most my new equipment was supplied by DV Cambridge - so cheers to Duncan and the guys for their help and support. Basically consists of reception, client lounge, Project Studio, Tracking Room and Control room. All rooms are connected via tie lines back to the control room so each room can be a recording room if needed. Control room has window through to main Tracking room, also Project studio and Lounge can be paired off as a mini-studio, wanted to build in as much flexibility as possible. Control Room designed using recommeded acoustic room ratios, walls are at 6 degree angle and ceiling slopes down from 3m at 12 degree angle - sounds rather good - I guess having a blank canvass and putting in the research leg-work does pay off! Kit as follows: Control Room: Quad Core PC running ProTools 7.3 and Cubase 4 Soundcraft Ghost 24 channel desk Adam A7 monitors Digi 002 rack Focusrite Voicemaster Pro Focusrite Octopre Channel Strip dbx PB48 patchbays x2 Lexicon MPX1 ALesis Midiverb 3 Behringer MDX4600 Behringer Dualflex Behrinher HA4700 Headphone amp Proteus 2000 Quasi Midi Polymorph DX7s Roland JX3P M-Audio Keystation 88 Korg MS-20 mini Controller Korg Kaos Pad 3 Yamaha Pacifica 112v Guitar Vox 30w amp Project Studio PC running Cubase 4 Behringher Truth 2031A Monitors CD/DVD duplicator CD Printer Both studios run huge amount of plugins - most processing done via software to be honest ... loads of VST/RTAS instruments and fx. Favourites are Absynth 3, Kontakt 2, Spectasonics Atmosphere & Stylus RMX. Vast sample library available to both studios over network. Lounge Xbox 360 PS2 Gamecube/Wii (when we bring in from home!!) Projector Guitar Hero (!!) Mics Rode NT-1A's Shure SM86's Shure Drum mic's Shure SM58 Behringer B2 Def need to invest in some more mics and a bit more outboard gear at some point.. but gotta pay the bills first! Hopefully pics will appear somewhere in this post - also put a few of the construction phase for those who may be interested .. but if I jeff it up (which is highly likely) you can see the place at our website Hope you like. ![]() Cheers Dave. |

I've only just recently found myself in enough money to afford a few basic recording tools... but the hunger is building, and I love writing lists
![]() DAW's 1. Custom PC (Windows Vista 64bit): - Intel Q6600 Quad Core - 8GB 1GHz RAM - nVidia 780i based motherboard - ASUS Xonar D2 sound Card (118db SNR!) - nVidia 8800GTX graphics card... (a little noisy) - 22" Samsung 226BW LCD screen 2. Laptop (Windows XP Pro) for all my recording needs! - Intel Core Duo 1.8Ghz - 1GB RAM - Edirol FA-101 interface + a huge amount of external hard drive space! Monitoring - A: 2x Genelec 1029A - B: 2x JBL Control IC - Sony 7509HD phones (very dissappointing) Control - Novation Remote Zero SL Software - Ableton Live 7 - Cubase LE - Sony Soundforge 9 - Audacity Mic's I borrow all of the mic's I use from work so havn't really got any of my own... Some of the highlights of those include: - Neumann - U87 pair - AKG - 414 pair and 451 pair - Sennheiser - MKH50 Instruments/Amps Guitars - Fender Mexican Strat (2001) modded with Hot Rails in the bridge - Epiphone Flying V (1995ish) modded with IronGear pickups - Ovation Celebrity acoustic Amps - Marshall 30W practice amp - Line6 Spider II 275 (stereo 75W) + FBV Shortboard - GallienKrueger 250ML (stereo 50W) All of this is in a pretty small bedroom, but which is a seemingly good shape for reverb (an unequally shaped trapezoid)... |

My studio, alas, I don't have one at the moment. Don't have a PC, don't have an audio interface, don't have any preamps, don't have anything flash at all, got a couple of microphones and an assortment of cables, but that's about it. The pains of the transitional phase between owning loads of stuff, selling it all on eBay, and pooling the money + working a few extra shfits to buy considerably better stuff, eh?
