Default mics and sound quality

Did anyone else catch Jazz 625 on BBC4 a few nights ago?

I thought the sound quality remarkable especially back then with black and white telly!

A goodly number of 4038's were dotted about.

yes - i saw a 4038 on mic milt jacksons vibes... using the rear pick up of the microphone!

they managed to get a superb drum sound with some long looking mics, but they never got close enough to really see. too short to be c12s but pretty similar looking. and really high up.

what were the meat and 2 veg condenser drum mics of the late 50's?
