Hi Jamie,

With reference monitors you really have to use your ears! I'd recommend popping down to your local DV and comparing them with others in the same price range. Bring in a CD or a mix you're familiar with so you can get an idea for mixing. Remember that studio monitors are designed to be flat rather than flattering so don't automatically go for the ones that sound the best! You need to hear everything in your mix and ideally hear then clearly in the stereo spread.

Hi Damnation. On another thread here I recommended them as they are the choice of a well respected engineer I know and I've heard them for myself. They're definatly worth a try but trying as mentioned above is the key word.

Monitoring in my experience is one of the hardest nuts to crack as: the room, how many people are in it, in the case of passive speakers the amps and even the room temperature can make a difference. There are so many variables that you can and some do, drive themselves nuts.

Wishing you good luck and do let us know how you get on.

Hi Jamie

Did you end up getting the Alesis M1Active 320s? I'm thinking of getting them as well, would be interested to hear what you made of them.

Thanks
Norm
