Hi folks,
Really glad I found this place as have already picked up no end of tips, but now just embarking on the process of putting together our first recording studio and havent very much of a clue where to begin... can anyone help or advise? So far we have converted the garage and now need to start thinking about putting things in. We have a PC that we will be using so need to know what software is best for our needs as again there seem to be so many choices. We also need to know what hardware to attach. The room will basically be used for recording vocals only on pre-existing tracks. Budget isnt massive but we've got around 2 or 3 grand to spend. is this realistic? Hope thats not too sketchy for you all, any info at all would be really helpful. Thanks Tony |

Unless you can come back with more specifics 'cheeky', this thread should help get you started.
My First Setup After reading that, if you'd like to come back with more detailed questions, I'm sure they'll get answered.. ______________________________

Thanks for the pointer.
Ive now taken a read through the thread and it has indeed answered a few questions. One thing I am still unsure of is which route to take. I am pretty sure I like the idea of having physical sliders on a mixing console in front of me rather than all on a computer screen, but I do want the computer to handle certain aspects like vocal tuning etc. What I didnt see on the previously mentioned thread is any mention of something like http://www.dv247.com/invt/38070/ recording workstation. Why/when would someone use that over other options? Thanks for your help ![]() |

ok i can't advice you what to do with the money as there will be other members here who will disagree with what i say purely as they may work a different way. there is no right or wrong when choosing which path to go down in how you work.
if i had the money and considering my PC was up to scratch, i would buy a nice audio interface, something from RME maybe like the fireface 400 or 800, then get a D.A.S such as sonar or live, a good set of monitors such as dynaudio's or adams, a good mic (i don't really know too much about these) cables and the rest on acoustical treatment, what you have linked is really not needed to be honest. if you want the hands on feel get something like a novation zero control, frontier groups alpha track is excellent imo ______________________________
