I am looking to install a simple replay system in a church and need something which can be used by the non technical. MP3 replay from hard disk would be ideal although as a starting point I am looking at the Tascam SS-R1 which plays from compact flash.
Total volume of music ammounts to about 45 CD's. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated - whats out there that I'm missing? |

the Tascam SS-R1 is really made too record too compact flash instead of using a tape recorder or a mini disc this would be more ideally suited for a pub or club too record live dj mixes rather than use at church..im not saying you couldnt but its got features you wouldnt really use.
if you just want too play back music from mp3s then just get a pa system which has inputs for a mp3 player or just get a amp and buy some peakers seperatly. check out the samson range of amps there good for installing in churchs, pubs there cheap and easy too use its also got rca inputs so you can buy a cheap mp3 player get a phono too stereo mini jack cable and you can just plug in the mp3 player and your away thatd be the easiest way too do it i think. Samson Servo 300 Power Amplifier at DV247.COM if in doubs call the dv247 team and explain your requirments ,how big the room is your installing the stuff in and your budget im sure theyd help you out .heres a link too the phone numbers and local stores .. http://www.dv247.com/page/Stores |

Cortex HDC500 1U Rack Mountable MP3 Player at DV247.COM
hey donotfearjazz, (what's to be scared of?) Assuming you have the PA sorted this might be just what you're after, check the link. If you don't know Cortex, they're the higher end wing of Gemini - you would have to buy an external hard drive for it or cram everything onto USB pen drives.........but it may be more suitable for the task than the Tascam. It was designed with just your kind of requirements in mind and tends to sell to people running shopping centres, exhibitions, shops - places where music needs to play continuously.......... Let us know if there's anything else that needs to be taken into account (PA etc.) as there may be other solutions. Hope this helps mate. DV Retailwarehouse team. |

Thanks, the Cortex looks like it will do the job nicely, the front panel looks simple enough. I had looked at a Denon CD/MP3 player with a 40Gb disk built in - great spec but totally impractical for this job because it looked like something out of mission control.
Cortex is not a name I've heard of before but then I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to MP3, I think I'll buy one for demo purposes. The rest of the PA is pretty much sorted - 2 radio mic channels (Sennheiser), a small rack mixer, a quiet amp and a couple of Martin Audio speakers. |
