It looks gorgeous and I love the concept, but sadly it's not self-contained... it requires a Mac to run the software that drives the sound, somewhat hampering it's intended use as an expressive performance instrument... and it's bl**dy expensive!

For a start.. £4,000 That's crazy, i was expecting £1k perhaps, but £4k is far too expensive, especially for something that is technically just a controller if what you say is true about the software/mac thing. (I'm assuming it is ) They do a mini one for £349 which i might look at, but if the original is £4k i'm not expecting something nearly as good for less than 10% of the price. But yeah, great idea and i've signed up to be an 'official tester' just incase, but i think i'll be giving it a miss. ______________________________

I wasn't aware of the "official tester" thing... I'll go sign up myself as I'd love to take one for a serious spin. I simply wouldn't feel comfortable enough to trust using any form of desktop of laptop computer in a live situation. The nearest I'll get is a Muse Receptor or an SMPro V-Machine, but they are essentially specialized single purpose dedicated computers rather than a standard consumer machine.

I've just sat and watched the 2 part interview with the inventor of the EigenHarp over on SonicState. I have to admit, it's changed my initial opinion somewhat.
The stated reason for running the software externally on a Mac is to keep a definite separation between the controller and the software since computer hardware has such a high turnover as power and innovation increases, whereas he sees no reason for someone not to still be using the actual EigenHarp itself in 50 years time, albeit probably with the software running on some kind of quantum processor the size of a matchbox . Having heard the argument, it's a decision I can fully understand and given their intention to make the actual software that drives it Open Source (yes, they intend to Open Source it!), then there will be complete opportunity to port the software to whatever ruggedized computer hardware you want to make it more compatible with "life on the road". Definitely want to test drive one now! ______________________________
