Stop press!! The awesome guys a Creation Audio just told about the project they are currently working on. A studio quality opto compressor with a twist. It will come in both rack and pedal form and they are hoping it will be ready for next year's show!

Top banana!

Day two and the plan for our intrepid duo was to rise early and head to the (free breakfast) session on maximising internet traffic for audio businesses (more for the free breakfast and the networking than the session to be honest but there ya go) and then head back into the show to try and get around the rest of the stands. In practice, we woke up a little after 9:30, a little the worse the wear for the previous evening's activities, uploaded some more photos for you guys, showered and headed off, to find somewhere for breakfast. In the circumstances, we didnt make it to the show until about 11:30. But boy, we found more cool stuff.

First stop was the API stand. Now I have to declare a vested interest here. I had pretty much decided on an API console for my new room. That was until I heard they had pulled the optional automation. Well a console without automation is a bit like cornflakes without milk. It still works but it just misses that je ne sais quoi (though in this example its obviously the automation so more a kind of je sais quoi). Anyways, I digress. To cut a long story short, we had a bust up with the API guys about the lack of forthcoming automation. Ultimately, after giving us what was obviously just the company line, they ended up agreeing with us that it wasn't great form to be asking customers to go elsewhere and look at Flying Faders (at a grand a channel).

Next we hit Jackson Custom Guitars who had an awesome range of truly custom offerings.

First up, at the top, was their version of the Spider:

Quickly followed by their AK47:

And finally, the Betty Boop:

Coolest new invention of the show goes to a company called Pick-smith. Their neat gadget, the snappily entitled 'Jam Kat Pick Holster' is essentially a holder for a pick which clips to your finger so you can alternate between finger picking and your pick without missing a beat. We did a little interview with the lady but, for some reason, lost it whily suncing the ipod

Here's what she looked like

(if you look closely you can even see the holster on her finger)

Check them out on www.pick-smith.com

We spent some time this afternoon wondering over Qwiklock's latest offering:

(wondering what it was that is). We concluded it must be some kind of indoor gym for audio geeks. What do you think?

Then we bumped into Paul White from Sound-on-Sound who was doing and interview with MXL about their newly released ribbon mic:

I mean literally. Almost bloody knocked him over.

And last, but by no means least, we came across a really cool gizmo (or rather 3 versions of a cool gizmo) from a new company called Jam-hub. Here's what the marketing blurb says:

Quote:
JamHubs were created to give musicians the freedom to jam all they want, wherever they want. When you’re jamming, it’s virtually silent to the outside world. Neighbors can’t hear it. Parents can’t hear it. Cops can’t hear it. But for everyone in the band, the experience rocks. Just pick a color section and plug in your instruments, mics and headphones. Each musician can control their own individual mixes. You’ll hear yourself like never before with amazing new clarity, no more volume wars, and your playing will improve faster. JamHub is also affordable, portable and easy to set up. So now every band can make more music more often.
Watch here for the DVTV interview:

but in the meantime...

Here's what we say:

"An interface with 3 options each having increasing feature levels, Jam-hub looked useful whether you are a young band that want to rehearse silently in your own house, a band working hard to get arrangements right before going into a recording studio or even a band that want to be able to put your own demo tracks down, Jam Hub allows it all. Essentially an audio interface with integrated DIs/headphone amps Jam Hub also has a matrix mixer so you can each model your own headphone mix. In addition it provides stereo outs so you could send it straight into a recorder to provide you with a quality little product. With built in effects a and a number of accessories our tip is that this item is going to become a big thing. It's due to be unleashed in Europe around October this year."

check it out on their website: http://www.jamhub.com/what/index.html

We had pretty much done the whole show by about 3pm so we headed out to see Grammy award winning producer, Michael Wagener at Wireworld Studios. Michael was busy working with US rock band, Hydrogyn (who incidentally are touring their new album in the UK and Europe starting in October). We hung out with them until about 8pm and then headed out for sushi with Michael, his assistant JJ and the band. Sadly, I forgot to take pics. But fear not. We are all meeting up for a night out on the town tomorrow so I'll try and take a few pics en route!
