Default Apogee ONE

Mac only, of course... but looks very nice indeed for a simple one-channel solution! If I were setting up a home VO recording or podcasting setup, for example, this would be high on my list!

I think its the in-built condenser mic that makes this a winner...

USB powered too so you really can capture ideas on the move without having to lug around psu's, leads etc.

... although I would potentially argue that you're still having to lug around a computer, with a PSU. For true "ideas on the move" the Zoom H2 and its brethren cannot be beat, IMO!

(although it should be noted that DV's description of the H2 is inaccurate on that page, it doesn't actually do Mid/Side - the first product announcements indicated that it would but Zoom revised the spec to X-Y before shipping the product. But I suppose I'm niggling, it's still a cool toy.)

On their page, the pre in the ONE is described as:

Based on the award winning mic preamps in Apogee's Ensemble and Duet”

So presumably, it’s not the same and further presuming, it’s inferior.

But … for half the price of a Duet … it’ll be a winner!

Exactly... the target market would be hard-pressed to do better, I would think - although I won't say definitively until it's actually out and I either hear it or get the opinion of someone I trust.

Yes I agree – but the market can be …. odd. I’m sure the one input will put some people off; especially compared to other units in the same price range that have 4 ins.

Although, of course, in practice a lot of people will only ever need a single mono in!

Exactly! Even I have too many inputs here that I never use simultaneously - I just like to say that I COULD record 13 tracks at a time.

In any case, if I were a salesperson and someone came in looking for a high-quality podcasting solution for their Mac, this would be the first box I'd show them.
