Yes spotted the update.

Just one more to go - eventually - although no plans (or is there?).

Demo is on its way too -based on 8.0.2

Cakewalk did stop at 7.0.2 for Sonar's last version (I think) so maybe there will be no 8.0.3.

This might be as good as it gets for v.8. Let see

Yes it's strange

1 - A fella said someone mentioned 8.0.3 at a show
2 - Cakewalk fella said he was mistaken - no plans for 8.0.3
3 - Another Cakewalk fella said it wasn't the last - but never said when
4 - Some things not yet fixed - doesn't affect most of users

I and everyone else knows it's determined by the next release date ie Sonar 8.0.3 is Sonar 9 and Sonar 9 is 8.0.3 with a few plug-ins.

Hey guys, I still use sonar 6 (and sometimes 5 since I for some reason love the feel of it) but when I upgraded to 6 I started having problems as it seemed to be a huge resource hog. I was going to upgrade to 7 when it came out hoping this was fixed but I read it was even worse. Now I have heard that 8 has fixed those issues and it is not a hog anymore. How do you guys feel it has been for you?

Hi maddogmaulucci,

I would say Sonar runs best on a quad. I have found S8 to be better CPU wise than v.7 but not by much. Maybe 5 - 10% but defintely not a hungrier app CPU wise compared to v.7

You can get even better CPU performance out of S8 on Vista x64.

...Sonar on Vista x64 uses about 10% - 20% or so *less* CPU than Sonar on Vista x86. Cakewalk cooked this version rather well.

I think Cakewalks native Sonar x64 version really gets the most out of the 64 bit CPU architecture and RAM (up to 128GB) so x64 is really the benchmark but of course not that many have made the jump but the number is rising.

So there is a double CPU gain IMO with v.8 compared to v.7 (if you are moving from x86 to x64). Not a massive gain but it's there.

Cakewalks claims have been backed up by some on their forum so I guess there are many factors that can lead to less CPU usage or similar compared to a previous version.

To be honest I don't really think v.6 even was a CPU hog but that was my own experience

What Computer set up are running Sonar on?
