Default An accidental but ace D&B mashup

Whilst warping files for a student gig in the week, I've accidentally gone and done this.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/165420/Mi...Get%20Down.mp3

It's a mashup of D&B mixes for Exhibit A - "G Minor" and Groove Armada "Get Down".

I'm not into D&B, but I do like this enough to share it. I will be testing it out at my gig. Hopefully they should continue dancing to it after I've had a couple of Pendulum moments

Im not that much into D&B either, though love some of the older more ambient D&B. This I like however - nice

Getting me tempted too do some more mashups - aint done any for ages apart form one I do in real time on CD decks, but forgotten which two tracks now and never got around to recording it - Duh!

Great fun doing them on the CDJs with the hot cues and fader start functions - wish I was agood enough turntablist to be able to do them on vinyl though - mucho fun!

That's just reminded me. I used to do an ace one on vinyl. The records are well and truly lost in my house somewhere. Will dig them out when I get time and do it in live.

Me and my old housemate used to lock ourselves in the cellar for hours and do this with the Denon DNS3500's as they had 2 hotstarts, good cue-ing and a sampler built in as well, was amazing fun. Got a couple of really classic combinations out of it as well-not to mention some really bad ones.

Ed-Brilliant track, had me grooving away in my seat with a cuppa, good work. Not that into d&b either but love anything fast really. I agree you should whack a pen-name on it and send it to someone like Annie Mac-its the type of thing thats rather 'in' at the moment.

I hadn't commented on this before but it's better late than never, right?

Cool stuff Ed.

How does one go about a mash up? I've just discovered what it is. I presume you can't just you mash up any two songs but have to see if they fit key and harmony wise.

That's pretty correct.

It normally involves a vocal from one, and instrumental of another. But in this case, it's two tracks/mixes of the same genre just simply playing simultaniously with some effects running.

But it has to be complicated to find two tracks that will work together then. Or do you change the pitch of the vocal to fit the instrumental of the other? This must be easier than vice versa.

using live you dont over think it just try a couple and normally from experience you begin to recognise key similarities in tracks making it easier to pair them

It sounds like you need to be a DJ for this sort of thing!
