Arrow Deep Soulful track -

well i had started a deep glitchy track over the week end but got sooo frustrated with it scrapped it and decided to try something a little more chilled and soulful, tbh i dont even know how this fits into a genre but here it is any way, opinions anybody?

btw the bass is very low and i dont think it gets picked up on laptop speakers

Well don't expect me to categorise it in a genre! What do I know?

The bass sounds fine on my hissing KRKs. Overall I think it sounds fine but maybe the stabbing chords are a bit too loud. What do you think? If a bit lower maybe the bass and lead parts (which are even lower) might come out more in the mix.

I like it...even if it is wee bit repetetive.

I like it

For stuff I might do differently by my taste:
The hi-hat used over beat 4 - seems very hard and harsh - maybe use a filter to roll it off a little. you could lower them, but I think you wanted them standing out like that, so I would just soften them so they aint as fatiguing.

The stabs - they are quite hard once they ramp up, more a little too hard/energetic for the rest of the track - perhaps roll off the top end a tiny bit and maybe give them some more balls (gentle low-mid EQ boost), or take them down a bit, alternately a very subtle tape delay tape effect on them to take the edge off a little?

For my taste I might actually soften them again after they hit full level and bring up the background little detail sounds, particularly pushing the ones with higher frequency harmonics out around the sides.

The bass at the start - I would tempted to try pumping it quite hard from the kick - at least in places. The bass sounds is long enough to perhaps gain from this so that the second kick after each bass hit makes it bounce a little - or alot?

Love the soft evolving distorted stab sound thats used for buildups through a tape delay - BTW - what plugin was used for that delay - it sound good!

yes i wanted them to stand out of the mix a little i may cut some highs out as they do cut through a little too much

noted, for me this track oddly enough has been a b!tch to mix as iv tried a whole different approach to what i usually do, it has a rough over all mix and effects automation but like you mention certain things still need a lot of tweaking. as for the stabs i want to rather put tape on it extend the release of the envelope a little bit to soften them that way and may be re adjust the volume according to the other tweaks i will continue doing.

right, the bass gave me no end of hell, for what reason i dont know??? it has some very gentle side chaining off the kick but i didnt want to give it too much as i wasn't after that feel.

this is currently my favourite delay, it knocked echoboy down to 2nd place. it is Audio Damage's Dubstation, by far the best delay unit i have used and it is really cheap at around 40 euro's

cool, the "sync" switch is what works magic, that and the regen dial leave the timing as is and you have a sweet delay
