Default Rode NT2A over NT1A

I haven't been around long... but long enough to know that these kinda queries tend to repeat, have checked a few pages back, but can't see anything on this...

I'm looking to grab to pair an NT-1a with an M-Audio Tampa (when I have enough to buy both these), but am wondering if anyone's had experience with both these mics and how they compare?

Basically, does the price difference represent a reasonably well proportioned difference in quality between the two...?

Yes. IMO the NT2a is a better mic (it could of course have been that the particular one I tried was a particularly good one). In addition to being more flexible (polar patterns etc) I found it somehow less harsh than the NT1a.

NB, not sure why you'd post this in the live sound forum... It probably needs moved to pro-audio.

In agreement with Trev... I have and NT2A (used mostly for vocals) and a pair of NT1As (used for drum overheads, one of which I actually bought from Trev). I would also say that if you can afford the NT2As then the extra expense is, IMHO, quite justified.

Excellent

Thanks for that chaps. I have been tempted to blind buy the NT-1a, but have heard a couple of recordings on 2a with vocals that sounded very persuading. Wasn't sure if it was the pre-amp and mic coupling that pulled it out nicely or just the mic.

Ah, Trev... yes you're right - I'm usually good with posting in the right areas, but have been away from these forums for quite a while and just saw the sub-heading reading 'mics' to this section and just dove in a bit eager-like.

Don't think I can myself, but if admin or anyone can move this thread to the right bit...
