Default Muffled Fluttering Monitor

So what's gone in my monitor to make it go muffled, fluttering and up and down in the volume department?

Certainly not through noise abuse as it's always relatively quiet.

If I get it fixed, which looks likely as I'm skint, I need to pretend I have some idea what's wrong with it so I don't get taken to the cleaners.

Any advice gratefully received.

Feathers got in somewhere??

Sorry, seriously, I have no idea. Hopefully some one else will!

is the signal intermittent? or just volume fluctuations? if so could be poor connections at the back, firmly push all plugs and sockets into place

Like the feathers joke.
Probably because I've been winging it all this time.

It's deffo a monitor failure. Surprising, as there's no abuse.

I've done a few tests of cables, soundcard and the like.
But I'll examine it further. I'd noticed it dropped volume a few times.
Thought it was the soundcard. But I've tried different cables and set ups and I tried bass through it as that always shows up deficiencies and it's not sounding good.

Could be the amplifier I'm told.

Funnily, something similar happens with my KRKs (yeah, them again!).

I don't know if your problem is a permanent muffle or if it's as in my case where I could be playing something on the keyboard and the volume drops down. It may or may not return to the original volume after a period of further playing.

For attention of all who remember my hissing monitor problem:
I have made arrangements at a local sound shop for a technician to check them out and if necessary send them back to KRK.

I could therefore be without monitors for possibly week or two depending on the problem

Yeah it is similar. It's not easy to work out exactly what's going on as although it does similar things each time, there is no real pattern.

I can get it to work via s/pdif but I'm not too fond of that on these speakers or this card. On other stuff I've been ok with this method but for some bizarre reason it's not good to my highly sensitive ears. It doesn't have the control on the volume either (which is weird in a soundcard) and the signal sounds.....too bright/too hot and it's a lot louder for some inexplicable reason. I just don't like it, basically.

I'm fairly blasé about things like this but suffice to say I'm not overjoyed at this failure on this occasion.

Not knowing makes it difficult to action it.

Make sure theyre not set to auto power on. sounds daft but ive had that happen before where signal keeps crossing the threshold and the monitor goes to power down but then comes back on as something goes over. bit off the cuff but worth having a butchers at
