Hi
I'm very new to this and a bit confused about the different # of channels available for the Samson system. I need to use a radio headset mic system for aerobics, and the Samson was recommended by my 'tutor'. Having read a couple of threads on here, seems that even that (which was originally way above my v.limited budget) is at the cheaper end of the scale. I've just purchased the Airline 77 QE channel 2 system (I was originally looking at a £95 Gemini system as a starter, having previously seen the Samson for £295; however thanks to DV247's great pricing the £209 tag has brought it just into my league, thinking that the additional £100+ is worth it to avoid having to wear a body pack whilst leaping about on a stage). I'll be plugging the Samson into a Fender Passport PA system, along with either MP3 player or iPod for music; and my venue is the local village hall with the risk of competing with other sound systems in the vicinity extremely low. So, my question is: will 2 channels be sufficient and what would be the advantage of the 3 or 4, given that the price is the same? Thanks SJ |

No the channels doesn't refer to amount of channels - it refers to the frequency so you don't have conflicts with other users who would be on a different frequency on a different receiver, or so you can buy equipment with the same channel as you have. If you bought the mic say then you buy one that is CH 2. Basically, if you want to add any of the items you can add such as the guitar jacks, mic etc or if you break the part you have then you must purchase the one that matches the channel of your receiver, which is CH 2 in your case.
* Samson Airline 77 QE Channel 1 * Frequency 863.1 | UHF Wireless Headset Microphone System * Samson Airline 77 QE Channel 2 * Frequency 863.6 | UHF Wireless Headset Microphone System * Samson Airline 77 QE Channel 3 * Frequency 864.5 | UHF Wireless Headset Microphone System * Samson Airline 77 QE Channel 4 * Frequency 864.8 UHF Wireless Headset Microphone System I must say I had the guitar system part - both jacks - and it never dropped out once - never. In fact ,only one side lit up - bear that in my mind as it only lights up the other side if it has to - ie true diversity - but it rarely ever does - as it was so good. ______________________________

Having absolutely no experience whatsoever of "leaping about on a stage", I may be totally wrong here, but I'd be a bit concerned about the weight of that transmitter banging about on the back of my head all night. It's not terribly big, but I really can't imagine it being very comfortable, and I'd imagine that compared to a simple headset mic, it would be more likely to fall off under its own weight during vigorous "leaping".
If you want switchable frequencies (and to be honest if you're in a hall in the middle of nowhere, you probably don't need this) you could look at the AKG WMS 40 Pro Flexx Sports system - http://www.dv247.com/invt/33367/ which is like many others, designed for "leaping" applications - though you will have to find somewhere for the transmitter pack. I suppose it depends on what you wear whether or not this is suitable. |
