Hi, I am looking for a few new amps, specifically for bass speakers so ones with an active bass filter and also with the option of being bridgeable.
Am looking for 3 amps (2 for bass one for ya normal stuff) the 2 bass amps I would like to be able to handle up to 800w rms bridged to 4 ohms and one to 500w rms bridged to 8 ohms and one amp to be ble to delivery a very high quality sound for studio recording playback which can put out about 120w rms per channel into 8 ohms. Any suggestions? Im not going into the ££££ mark and would like to keep between £200 - £400 maybe just higher. I have looked at the dimension 4 and 5 amps for raw power but would really like some suggestions from others. Cheers, Tim Porter |

my initial reaction for amps is usually QSC - you can't go far wrong with them, and they are now much better value for money (=affordable) than they were at one time. Be careful about just judging amps on the rated power output. An amp may be able to deliver x watts into 4 ohms - but that does not necessarily mean it can sustain it, or more importantly, that it can sustain it without distortion. Some cheap amps can deliver short term bursts of power, but ask them to do it for longer periods, or to do it over an extended period of time, and you're in trouble! (Sagging power supply voltages, leading to distortion and/or overheating etc.) Also consider the noise and distortion figures, especially for the amp you want to use in the studio. |
