Default i think i kissed a girl in my Funky House???

well today i thought id knock up a kate perry remix of i kissed a girl, bare in mind im fairly new to this production lark compared to some of you guys on here so please be gentle with me.lol

do you think this is worth pursuing? i quite like my results but let a friend listen to it and he said he didn't like it, sounds very preset and boring?

i know the mix is crap as im finding it hard to mix it as its a lot busier than what i normally do and not done vocals like this before (and i really haven't tried hard enough) also arrangement is erratic as i just wanted to jot the ideas down quickly.

Kiss the Girl

The mix aint crap bro, sounds decent enough to me. I do reckon it is worth pursuing, but on the criticism side I think the pianos a bit old school 90's, and yeah, the majority of the sounds seem a bit preset'ie. Try stripping it back a bit to a more prevelant bass line or sound, and let the vocal and the groove work with that. Maybe minimise the busyness and get a decent intro and outro sorted? How about a breakdown section too?

Did you add that vocoder on the lead vocal - nice if so.

no vocoder, a little bit of echoboy. i think il sit down and concentrate on it tonight. matbe change the piano sound, wanted that freemasons sound then will work out a better arrangement

I hadn't heard the original before and I like what you have done with it. I agree on the piano - but principally I think it's a bit loud for the vocal.
Speaking of the vocals, I like what you have done with it.

Good on ye, mate. I wish I could get something together to that level!

What were your starting materials on the song - acapella or with instrumental parts?

i just had the accapella, played the rest in through logic instuments, this initially started to see if i could only use logic instruments. think i will have to use my 3rd party v.i's now

ok had some time today to do some work to that track, included a type of breakdown in the middle which includes a sort of dummy build up but think it may last too long but some more feed back would be great, don't really have that many mates in the same game so cant really get educated feedback else where hope you guys don't mind

Never ever let that change because the song is absolutely crap. I'd rather be forcefed Wasabi through my nose than listen to Katy Perry out of choice.

I've only had a quick listen to it so I won't comment much until I listen more. But I do prefer it to the first rmx.

Do you feel like going to Remix advice? and commenting on it
  • how you have done the rmx
  • what kit you have used
  • how you approached it
  • what techniques you have used
  • etc

hey sphelan, would feel a little bit embarased to do something like that in all honesty when you have members like edRyan and modz1 there, this is all new to me and in all honesty i winged it. im sure how i did it was not the way id like to advice some one because it was alot of trial and error and experimenting for my self, i have no problem writing roughly what i did but i could never compare what i did to a track some of the other members have made. it would be like putting a low budget porno actor into a multi million dollar hollywood movie and asking him his technique to acting "i just go in, out, in, out and check myself in da mirror to see i look sexy" in a french accent
