Default A&R select on SoundCloud

I had a message from these guys on Soundcloud. Someone commented on one of my older songs and said he liked it. He asked me to get back in touch with him and left a phone number. It's in Los Angeles.

I clicked on his soundcloud and got this page
http://soundcloud.com/ar-select

Is is a waste of time bothering asking what they want?

I'm sure there are loads of scams with things like this. Don't want to get pissed around.

I'm sceptical. It's a very amateurish website and the registration fees page reads like a pricelist for radio plugging services. IMHO. I'd give it a miss if I were you.

I literally get about 5-10 of these a week.

I'm sure not all of them are merely scammers, but I still just delete them before reading.

Yeah, it was a comment on an actual song. Now a private message so it was just kinda there so i had no option but to read it.

I had a better look through their page after posting on here and could see that they had a pretty much standard message that they sent to quite a number of people. It appeared more like spamming than anything else.

Nothing more than dream merchants. Lots of these companies have surfaced on the net. Some of them run by ex A&R people. Generally they make claims about getting your tracks placed etc etc, but it's really about getting your cash through subscriptions of some sort or another. Sad to say it but if these were genuine you would be the one being paid for your work with no upfront fee's. I'd give em a wide berth if I were you.

Of course. They wouldn't get any money from me anyway, that's for sure!

I think alarm bells should ring straight away if people like that were asking for money upfront but i have no doubts that a lot of people are reeled in by it. Which is a shame because they will be playing on a lot of people's dreams and aspirations for their own gain.
