Most boards (if theyre not on an OEM machine or very early ddr2) should support 6400 (800mhz) even if they dont support the 800mhz speed they will clock it to the highest available. Maplin and PC world usually stock PNY, Integral and occasionally OCZ. if your using corsair value select (ie no heatspreaders) its like to be the same as the integral (depending on the chips on the module) so theres not gonna be much difference, even some of the xms and xms2 uses the same chips its only the lower timed XMS2, DHX and dominator that tend to user higher quality samsung or whoever chips.
If your on any other chip than an AMD or core 2 extremes then really you only need DDR2 5300 (667mhz) as the FSB unless overclocked is maxed out at 333 which is perfectly in sync with 5300 (random fact which confuses a lot of people is that as its ddr2 6400 or 800mhz, dual data rate, its actually only 400mhz, really it should be labelled as 800MT, MT meaning mega transfers which what AMD and others have to adopt when refering to the speed of the HT link in their processors which is why you see things like 5200MT on something like a phenom. Anywhoo...) |

No worries. Like i said a couple of posts a go the best check is to pull gfx card and ram out and see if you get beep codes, if you know that you know the boards functioning |

Ok ok-scratch the scratch that message, while I was writing it the thing died on me again and now nothing works so I have a feeling I've buggered the mobo...erm...help
Ok, scratch the 2 posts below, moved the RAM to the other slot on the mobo and it works. Obviously still a problme, but not as major as I originally thought. Right-Happily got everything working, connected etc, built my rack stand rack stand, bolted everything in, connected everything up, turned everything on and KABLAM!!! Exactly the same thing happened. I don't know why but whenever I connect hardware to my DAW it blows the ram. Brand new ram, exact same problem. Didn't even fire up once. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I guess its something to do with my sound card in's but cannot see why that would blow up 2Gb Ram... ______________________________

To be clear-its worked fine with replacement RAM, before I hooked up the outboard.
From the bottom up its connected like this: JV1080+KSRack into PX3000 patchbay PX3000 Patchbay into Audio in's on Audiophile 192 Then 192 outs into MINI MON 800 into monitors etc ______________________________

Nope. Its fried again. And nope, all Audio/midi. My midisport (which is a whole other pain in the arse) rund of usb, but it is exactly what happened last time without it. When I got the memory yesterday I had it all up and going ITB, connevted the outboard out and fizzle!
Unplugged everything, moved the RAM across thinking it may be the slot on the MOBO and it worked again, connected everything up and it hung, then dies, just like the last time. Not a happy bunny. ______________________________

Only thing i could possibly think of is that you have a damaged usb/firewire port or controller, the minute its being pushed its overvolting and surging the system, either that or your pulling too hard from the PSU and thats surging the system, the RAM would be on a seperate phase on the mobo and it could be taking this out only. Personally i would take it somewhere where they can try your components on a board that doesnt matter. Even if your supply has survived a surge and still functions it could have caused damage to one of the phases on the board and the minute they recieve either too much or too little voltage they keel over. make sure the CMOS is clear too so its not trying to do anything daft like send 2.1v through a stick that only wants to see 1.8 etc
Edit. check that all your usb headers are connected to any additional usb ports in the right config, if you put usb+ and usb- backward they short and take the system down striaght away and in some cases blow out the controller. |

Its literally been fine up until I've connected stuff through the soundcard. It happened before I added the midisport and thats the only new thing thats usb.
Its still covered by the people that built it, I may have to give them a call on monday and see what they say, it may be worth them taking it back and looking at it. The only shitter of it is I was gonna back it up once everything was set up, the hard drive that I backed it up originally onto died the other week and I didn't get round to sorting it...Pants. ______________________________

Brilliant-got my mum's fiancee round to help me before I picked the thing up, carried it to the train tracks and lashed it down before the 12:42 direct to Kings Cross came along. Systematically pulled odds and sods out and it turns out my 192 seems to be the guilty party. Shows what I know. Seems to be behaving itself better now, and I have 4 (well 3)GB RAM now. Thanks for the advice offered here lads, no doubt I'll be dredging this thread up again soon when something else breaks.
I think it should be renamed 'Wilty's FAIL Thread' and made a sticky. ______________________________
