.. and its good night from me.

Hey guys..

As of the 16th January i will no longer be part of your trusty forum admin team as i'm leaving DV. I'm off on my travels again, this time to Southern India!

I'm going as part of a volunteer staff team for the youth development charity Raleigh International. I was in Chile with them three years ago and had such an amazing time. It really changed my outlook on life! Recent events in my life made me consider my options, think about what is important to me and what i want from life . So, while young i'm going to explore the world, expand my skills and do some good for people less fortunate than our selves!

Raleigh is such a worthy charity and the work they do both in the UK and around the world is just amazing. I could waffle on about what they do for ages but their mission statement should do the trick :

Raleigh expeditions inspire people from all walks of life, ages and nationalities to make a difference to communities and environments. Through adventure and challenge we help them reach their full potential as global citizens. Our vision is to awaken a sense of life-purpose and belonging, creating a united global community working together to rise to the challenges of the world we live in.

This video may give you more of an idea as to where i will be and what i will be doing:

I don't fly out until the 27th January and am with Raleigh until 24th April. After that, who knows! I have a flight booked back at the end of May but it can/will be extended until the money or visa runs out!

If you are interested and want to follow me on my travels, I have resurrected my travel blog from when i was in Chile a few years back. Its a bit crude but it does the job - http://neilonexpedition.blogspot.com/

It's been great working for DV over the past few years, especially watching this forum grow to the community it has become in a short six months. I will miss the Sureno/Sphelen banter, IABP's parodies (they crack me up every time), the immense technical knowledge of Trev (even though I don't know what he is talking about), T3's witt and put downs and all the knowledge, help and links that everybody openly shares! Thanks to all of you for making this forum what it is today and may it carry on growing in 2009!!

Go easy on Modz1 and enjoy all the up coming prizes this year, they are gonna be great! :bbdrool:

Laterz

Neil.

sphelan 5th January 2009 10:35 PM

Sorry to lose you ndk...best of luck in all you do, mate...it's been a pleasure. And I'm glad you enjoy a bit of banter every now and then:thumbsup:

PS: I hope this isn't Modz1 writing in your place...and you are really locked in that dugeon!

sureno 5th January 2009 10:44 PM

Well Neil,

i envy you, what your doing is only dreamed by some. good for you mate, i really mean that mate. bout time Modz1 did some work round here instead of hogging all the glory with his shiney disco ball avatar:p

TrevCircleStudios 5th January 2009 11:02 PM

Great thing to do and you'll have the time of your life. You're absolutely right about doing it while you can. I did and I learned so much.

Take it easy bro

Gotta get out of this black & white town, eh?

Good luck and thank-you. Do check in now & again, or I'll start posting technical requests on your blog for no apparent reason whatsoever other than "old time's sake."

All the best sir!

NDK

Sorry to hear you are leaving us but glad you are following a calling. Our little community will miss your poor dress sense and daft barnet and other things which don't immediately leap out but I'm sure you made a valuable and insightful post on a least one occasion.

It is a far, far better thing that you do, than you have ever done; it is a far, far better and more inspirational, worthy, life-changing adventure that you go on than you have ever been on before.

As a supporter of my ditties you will be greatly missed. One less mod to mock is never a good thing either. As I'm about to put an album together and I can't sing, you must pop on to hear what may go down in history as the worst debut album of all time.

Take it easy. Make a copy of my posts and take them with you for some light reading. They are possibly the greatest pieces of literature ever written and I say that with my hand on my heart and because it's true.

Know it sounds funny
But I just can't stand still again
DV I'm leaving you tomorrow
Seems to me, posters,
You know I've done all I can
You see I have new goals
And dreams to follow, yeah
Ooh, that's why I'm leaving
I'm leaving the DV forum, yeah
That's why I'm leaving
I'm leaving on friday morning

Half way around the world
Sure, inspiration will see change in me
I can choose to help others make it
Everybody wants me to be
Just like that genius IABP
I'm not happy 'cause I'll never make it!
No!

Ooh, thats why I'm leaving
I'm leaving on friday morning, yeah
That's why I'm joining
I'm joining up on April 24th

The time feels right, so right
I wanna be free to know
These things I do are right
Part of Raleigh
Selflessly, oh yeah!

Ooh, thats why I'm leaving
I'm leaving the DV Forum, yeah
That's why I'm joining
I'm joining up on April 24th

Ooh, thats why I'm leaving
I'm leaving on friday morning, yeah
That's why I'm joining
I'm joining up on April 24th

I would like to leave this country
Go abroad and do good things that will inspire me and
As I can see some events in my life running around my mind
And if I could leave this island - new adventures... I'd like to try them
'Cause I can feel my outlook in life playing upon my mind

And here I go.. this is my chance and I've got to know...
My body feels young but my mind is getting old
So what do you say?
Should I follow my dreams 'cause they're mine anyway?
It's half the world away
Half the world away
Half the world away
I've been lost but I have found my life calling deep down.

One day I'm gonna leave, I've planned it
You know I would stay but my heart's not in it and
I can feel for once in my life that there's no doubt in my mind
When I go I'm gonna leave my spirit, place you in my heart and carry you in it 'cause
I can feel these troubled times running around my mind

So here I go.. this is my chance and one thing that I know
My body feels young but my mind is getting old
So what can you say?
You can't deny me my dream that's mine anyway?
It's half the world away
Half the world away
Half the world away
No longer lost but I have found my life calling deep down.

So dont feel down
I dont feel down
So dont feel down
I dont feel down

I_Am_Bic_Pentameter, i'm touched!

They are both excellent, spot on as usual and possibly two of the best pieces of literature ever written ! I particularly like the Half The World Away one. I might even print it out and attempt to sing it for one of the many skits we will have to do while on expedition. I just hope someone brings a guitar!

I look forward to hearing your debut album, i'm sure it wont be the worst in history, there were some shockers last year! I wish you the best of luck with it.

Wilty 6th January 2009 02:20 PM

Good luck with all that ndk, sounds like an adventure and a half.

trbguy 6th January 2009 04:14 PM

Have fun and meditate daily. Isn't that what people do in India?

Psst: come back soon

Tifstorey 6th January 2009 10:24 PM

Sounds Awesome. I've been wanting to do this for years but originally held my plans to do it as i was going to head straight out into 'the industry' to try and get a job. Now with this bluddy recession messing up my plans it looks like the perfect time to do it. Thanks for the reminder & info! Will certainly be checking them out and getting some funds raised.

I couldn't recommended volunteering with Raleigh enough! Get over to one of their open events and check out what they do. I signed up for my first expedition the day after i went to one..

allsorrowsjoy 7th January 2009 12:18 PM

Good on you. I'm planning on exactly the same thing, but leaving around October.

I want to travel and volunteer at the same time, so i'm saving up enough money to travel around the world volunteering. The only thing i've ever been truly good at is being good to other people (its the only part of existence that stands the test of time when all is said and done) and I honestly can't stand being in a job where it doesn't benefit another individual.
Here in the Western world we are completely desensitised to true suffering and have no comprehension anymore of what it means to really struggle. We're also missing out on the beauty of the natural world. *ends hippy waffle* :bbxyinyang:

Quite interested in animal conservation projects, teaching english, and just general volunteering with humans in general.

I was thinking of doing that with gapyearforgrownups though i'll be sure to check out your link.

BCTV also do stuff abroad and in the UK if you're ever interested in doing something UK-based.

All the best to you and your future, ndk.
