Well, it would appear I've had my debit card cloned..

I've just treated someone to a large top up on their mobile phone and bought them a coach ticket out of Birmingham- how generous am I ?!

That'll be our nanny state intervening and stopping you from buying unhealthy food. Try again and ask for a couple of salads and the sale will go through

I'll give you a call in a bit. I've got credit now, but can't get a signal whilst travelling..

On a more serious note. What a bummer. Had it happen to me.

Nasty. It's amazing how easily one can get someone else's info... this shows just how easy it is now.

oh rabbit food, i hate salad but yeah when you go into shops and they swipe your card in 2 different machines (2nd box being small and black) or take it out of site is usually a tell tale sign

My card has been done twice, which is only used with well-established shops and only online - you can't even trust the main players now.

Fortunately, it's only got to the tried and failed stage but it still means the card has to be replaced, which means lack of card for X amount of days.

Card cloning is huge now since the EU borders have opened. Each particular country in EU specialises in certain types of crime and card cloning on a major scale is run by nationals from one particular country (which shall remain nameless) and they specialise to avoid stepping on each others toes.

It does not look like things are getting better. "50% of UK PC's are vunerable".

A close relative works for the government side of things. You really don't want to know what's going on. It's all rather unpleasant.

If you put it that way then yes it may be better not to know. Hopefully things will get better before they get any worse.

The whole idea of the internet is great but so much of it is not policed. It's growth always seems to outpace security measures. This has to change at some point. Hopefully in my life time.

You'd be alarmed at the scale of internet scams and how successful they are. We laugh at some of the well known email ones and wonder how people get duped but there's many many more types.

There's always one simple rule - you just ask yourself - why is a complete stranger wanting to help me, another complete stranger, become better off financially - the answer is always the same - to make themselves richer and you poorer.

The amount of scams just in daily life is enormous too and a lot done under the guise of charity. That 'leave your clothes out for collection' is a cracking moneyspinner to name one.

Seriously though, that sucks. Apparently it's all too easily done too.

Just received an email today:-

Hi, I'm Cutthroat Jake. I have 2 million barrels of oil left to me by a crude uncle. There exists a tax in my country which you need to pay to release large quantities of oil - go figure. To release the barrels, it is required that a payment of $2million be paid up front. If you let me use $1million of yours, I will give you 500,000 barrels, when it is released. The barrels will be delivered at a time convenient to you. You make big profit and no mistake.

Just give me your full name and address telephone/fax number, company or
residential, also your bank name and account, where the money will be
transfered from. Modz1 has already paid one half so you know it's a right good deal, me old mucker.

Jake, Somalia x
