Not really. It's a mixture of actually being interested enough in Physics to rummage around on Wikipedia, and BBC News.

Me too. Sure, particles do fly around the cosmos like real fast but do they regularly wander in to our atmosphere and collide head on with another particle that happened to be flying by in the opposite direction at the same speed?
Which brings me to another question: Is it ethical to do this to innocent particles? Accelerate them to 99.99% the speed of light and send them in to a head on collision with another particle doing the same speed? Do particles have feelings? Should we create a Particle Liberation Organisation? We could call it the PLO, unless of course that acronym has already been taken?
