Default Is sampling cool or a ultra rip-off

Hey just wanted to know what you guys think about sampling.
I personally think sampling opens diferent "doors" in music making if you know what you are doing, also i gets people to know some old songs that are actually nice to listen to and most people don't know of their existence like myself who discovered a lot of songs while researching what hiphop producers sampled.

i think sampling is cool, it offers a different flavour. sampling is sampling and songwriting songwriting if you get my drift, they all have their good points and there is an art to it all. but daft punk took me by surprise when i learned how much they actually sampled, i love there stuff but was just surprised

I see arranging or producing like painting - adding different colours of flavours to a track. And sampling is one of the colours or other elements I can load on my palette to transfer to my canvas.

Like any element in the arrangement of a track, we choose what we use with great care. The use of different sounds or instruments is part of that. My sampler is an instrument to me, although a complex one. I would use sounds or fragments according to how I want to develope a track.

I think the clever use of samples of anything is interesting if done with taste. And the use of existing pieces of music fits in with that IMO - unless you intentionally go about ripping off someone else's tune to make money! But that is less common now due to copyright etc.

I think if a particular tune becomes, what I would call, "oversampled" or used alot in a new track, then it really becomes a remix, doesn't it?

Does anyone nowadays go to the trouble of sampling sounds from their environment to use in a track? Or is everything bought or downloaded?
