That Automaton is pretty impressive looking (see enclosed).

Judging by their previous efforts, I'm really looking forward to it. Like a supercharged DBlue Glitch in the way only Audio Damage can do.

I find their stuff very well priced as well, with their heavy hitting plugs coming in at around £25-30, and the compressor being free! Great value.

LOOKS INTERESTING.....

Looking at the Ratio is obviously a limiter as well.....

OHM Boyz....an amazing delay effect, I use it all the time and it's great for dub production.

Camel Space, it has a 128 step arppegiator, all sorts of filters and delays. Very good for distorting synth lines, adding phaze and whoosh effects to pads.

Z3ta+ synth, one of the best bits of kit I've bought, endless sound possibility with this one.

Nexus, I've been using this for just under a year and it comes with some very cool presets. I've just upgraded to v2 and have still yet to play around with it.

+1 on those recommendations, I use both in almost every project in some way or other

SPL Vitalizer MK2-T - it just seems to works wonders for enriching the sound of romplers, samples, synths, drums and basically anything thats just a litttle on the dull side - excellent on strings, pianos for giving them a more natural sounding tone. Stick it on a mix and its instant width and clarity.

dbx1066 - often used with the above for the same reason and and when set to pump a little breath bounce and life into drum machine patterns, submixes etc. All the indicators etc on it make it really easy to set up too and its auto mode is the classic dbx pump job.

CamelSpace for whenever you want to get dirty and wierd - very characterful filters and effects.

Favourite software general purpose compressor is the fabfilter Pro-C at the moment - I tend to use it side chained most of the time to pump submixes - its combination of UI, sound and dynamics response options make so easy to set up and get good results out of.

fabfilter Timeless - probably one the best filter+delay manglers around. Great for dub abuse.

fabfilter volcano - great sounding filters for software for anything from DJ type simple sweeps to heavily modulated mangling, or even just subtle sound spreading (slighly pan the two filters).

UAD plugins - I use the precision series plugins on just about everything. Still not sure about the bus compressor - dbx1066 or pro-c seem easier to get the desired results from. Their multiband is still my favourite multi-band compressor and same with their limiter.

TC fireworx - whenever I wish I could build a custom fx box with loads of mangling inside a feedback loop - this is what I turn to.

TC D-two - The only delay I have come across with swing and you can set the taps allmost like programming a drum machine.

At the moment - Ableton Live. In the past I've used it for getting stuff down quick, ie; oooh I wonder what would happen if i put this with this and sidechain this... etc. Lately Ive been experimenting with big long audio racks and effects chains using abletons own line of effects. I have to say I'm having more fun messing around these days developing my electronica chops.

Other than that I have a couple of old akai tape machines that my drum and percussion loops go to... think of the drums on the first track of the new portishead album. its distorts incredibly and rolls off anything above 10k, but has a wonderful presence and depth.

I love my RE 501 tape delay and spring reverb.

And since my UA 610 is broken in I can't imagine life without it on bass.

+1 for Ableton Live - that recused me from lack-of-creativity hell inflicted upon me by cubase

Actually after my first proper attempt at computerising - cubase very nearly put me off the whole computers+music combination for good - Live was what showed me that actually they can be good together without sacrificied too many of the freedoms of hardware.

After allways swearing I would never take a computer on stage (I simply didnt trust them) - actually I'm at the point where a laptop running Live + a good controller (Vestax VCM-600 when its available) will be all I do take on stage. Its the availability (at long long last) of the good controller that finally convinced me of this after some experiments with other controllers to see what working with the approach taken by the VCM-600 would be like.

I have been keeping my eye on that badboy myself, as has half the ableton community.

I just bought their VCI-100 for use with tractor 3 as well - really excellent build quality and feel to it when using it.

I am sooo sick to death of the usual cheap nasty plastic midi controllers and control surfaces around these days - whether keyboards, slider/knob boxes, DJ controllers etc - this thing is such a pleasent change. So really looking forward to getting the VCM-600 for use with Live - finally be able to run them both together - Live slaved to tracktor on another laptop via midi running loops, lights and my own stuff

Now just have to wrestle the vci-100 back off my girlfriend - shes been messing with it with tractor all eve since I got it.

Combining Destroy FX Buffer Override with filters is always good fun.

Both GRM Tools packs are really worth the bucks... they're great for sound design and for really twisted psychedelic effects.

Soundhack's Spectral Shapers are really subtle performers... great for creative dynamics and positioning. +binaural is a personal favourite.

I'm really upset that the guy who made dBlue Glitch hasn't looked into developing it for Mac... I like the look and sound of the Automaton plugin... but the samples don't really impress me as much as Glitch. If they had a downloadable demo, I'd be inclined to probe further. As it stands, when I completely switch to Mac, I'd like to keep my PC for all those free plugins that you can get; and then I can deem it my overly powerful FX unit!!

Just doing some recording away from the DAW today and reminded what a god-send the Frontier Design transport is...

Its a little minimal wireless DAW controller - basically enough to arm a track and record it. Also very handy when reviewing stuff from the sofa etc as you can add markers and jump between them etc.

It more or less lives on a mic stand stand to my drum kit
