Question UAD2 Recommendations

Well last friday i took a lovely trip down to the Romford branch of DV and part with an extremely hard earned wad of fibre (cheers Wampy ) for a UAD-2 Quad DSP card. I could only afford the most basic package but will now be on the look out for some new plugs, which ones do you guys recommend, bare in mind i already have an arsenal of quality native plugs so im really looking for things that will have an obvious head and shoulders effect above the average native stuff, plugs that are just in a league of their own really, im hoping you guys (CC) can advice me

im not demoing straight away as i dont really want to waste my trials so looking for assistance first

Which one exactly did you buy? And...doesn't it come with plugins?

I'm just talkin' out of my a** here because I don't have a UAD/UAD2 and I really have very little desire for one. But if I were to get one, I would demo the following plug-ins first:

Helios Type 69 (can't get an emu. of this anywhere)
The Precision stuff (I'd try it all and see what was useful, but I'm told that sonically it's about the best of all them)
The IBP (would be interesting to see if it works - but I want the hardware box anyway and even the real thing is not very expensive, compared to the Neve stuff for example)
The Harrison EQ (filters should be legendary, if they're done right)
VCA VU (it's a dbx 160VU clone which is also not really available anywhere else, so it would be interesting to hear what they've done with it).

I'd leave most of the rest of it alone (which is probably why I'm not in a hurry to invest in the system, as it were.) Lots of the emulations have native counterparts which are just fine, and none of 'em (UAD included!) sound exactly like the corresponding hardware anyway.

YMMV, of course!

From my own experience with the UAD plugs, here's my personal recommendations... of course I don't know exactly which one's you got bundled with the card.

Bread and butter plugs:

Cambridge EQ (use this one ALL the time)
LA2A and/or LA3A
Precision Bus Compressor

More specialist/specific use:

VCA VU
Roland DimensionD
Precision De-Esser
Little Labs IBP
Pultec Pro
Fairchild
Plate 140

all the precision stuff (except the multiband) is very good

Pultec is v good. I like the neve EQ's a lot (my favourite of the bunch actually). (These = instant phatness!) Havent used the Helios.

La3a and 1176 are really quite useable as is the Fairchild. 3 of the best software compressors I've come across.

The shining stars though... [drum roll]

...are the Dimenson D and the Plate 140.
