well its pretty simple this one ..whats your favourite daw software and why.
me personally ive tried lots of daws (except pro tools) and my favourite has too be steinberg cubase.this is the software that many copy but none capture the feel of cubase..steinberg invented the vst format plug ins and that was a stroke off genius its amazing too think now we can have a studio in our bedroom which can record better quality music than you could in some commercial studios over 10 years ago. its also been the easiest software for anyone too use .everything is labeled as youd expect it too be ,no fancy names or fancy icons just a basic gui front end screen and everything arranged intuitivlly.ive taught complete beginners to use cubase and within 10 minutes they can create and record .something which is also a joy to behold is to see someones face change the second they realize that the music coming out the speakers is not from a cd but is made by them .you also can see the sparkle in there eyes and there hooked from that minute. for me a dream job would be to work for steinberg those guys must get a buzz everyday i know i would and it,ll be intresting too see the new controllers steinberg have made which will hopefully be out this year i just hope there not over priced. |

I voted other - I use Cakewalk Project5 for all my work so far. Hoping to up it to Sonar in the near future.

The base by far. Ive tried logic, ive tried the tools and ive tried things like live, reason, FL and cakewalk but none have the flexibility and feel of being able to just jump in and get on with a tune, mix and whatever else in one package whilst still being really really intuitive. I really want to get nuendo just because when i played about on nuendo 2 at college it has all the same features but just sounds that little bit more clinical (and crashes less, but lets not go there). It has its faults and problems (especially 4.0) but i wouldnt go on to any other DAW just because it can do everything that i want to do without any huge amounts of hassle.

I can't vote for just one as I use both FLS and Tracktion more or less equally, but there's a reason for that.
I use FLS for midi as I find the audio recording side a bit clunky, and I use Tracktion for audio as I find the midi side too basic. |

Can't believe nobody voted Logic yet, although of course you do need to be on Mac. And there I don't think anything matches its workflow and integration with the OS (not even Cubase which I have got as well).

I'm waiting until I get a laptop so that I can dual-boot Windows and Mac on it. Then I'll be able to try out Logic.

I've used Cubase the most so I know it best. I always found it the easiest one to just pick up and use efficiently without having to constantly refer to the manual, thus it gets my vote.
But I've been playing with Ableton Live 7 Lite and like the way it works and how it looks. I've also just put an order in for Reason 4! Do a poll gain in 6 months time and see how the votes change! |

I voted other, I'm guessing I'm alone but I'm a big fan of Adobe Audition (v3). I mostly do post production for podcasts and other long speech based audio tracks (30 mins +) and Audition just seems to deal with it with ease.

ive tried to get into ableton loads of times but cant get used too it..i know its got excellent audio warpping functions but i dont think its as user friendly as some djs make out..but then again most of the top djs who do music will all have in house enginneers too do most the work.
all the djs i worked with years ago used too just come in and say i want it pumping and sweaty sounding !! lol we,d all look at them funny then just say have you any cds too give us ideas then the djs would go away for a few hours then come back and say yes or no then go away again then take the credit for stuff they had little input in. but theyd tell other djs theyd do all this programming and keyboard playing but in fact theyd not done a thing i still talk too some of my engineering mates and some still say that some of the top djs theyve recentlly worked with still do the "come in for 5 minutes then go away" routines then get interviewed in the top magazines and not even give them any credit for the songs which the djs havent even written.. its a shame ![]() |

Hi there
REAPER REAPER | About No I'm not shouting but I should be ![]() REAPER is a stunning DAW and for $50, yes that's about £25 in the UK at the moment its a complete steal Don't let this price point fool you, this DAW is up there with the big boys It is under constant development with superb support from the writers and a great forum where nothing goes unanswered What about this: You can install the whole thing on to a USB stick or similar and take your DAW with all your preferences, settings and plugs and run it on any other PC MAC version is slightly behind but coming on in leaps and bounds Its a winner all round ![]() Cheers Anton |
