Seems the only real limitation in EXS24 is the articulation/key switching workaround (for more complicated midi pieces) and a slight difference in polyphony, once again begging the question of just how complex you intend to write? I tend to bounce layered orchestral parts to audio once I'm happy with the balance, so huge amounts of live multi-layered polyphony isn't really on my radar (I have a 4 year old Mac G5, it's powerful, but not that powerful )I'm not too familiar with the capabilities/limitations of intervaLive®, so unfortunately, can't comment on Kontakt vs EXS24 on that... For me then, it'd have to be EXS.. but hopefully other members may chip in with an alternative viewpoint? ______________________________

I decided to go with Kontakt version, because it can be used as VSTi instrument plug-in for Sibelius.

![]() It's quite a job to download that library, because it's divided in 150 separate files which all have to go to right folder. I thought it would be in larger pieces. ![]() |

If you buy the kontakt version it will work in any DAW making it more future proof as the EX24 version will only run in logic.
who knows what DAW you'll be using in 3yrs time ? to be honest i think its cheap/cheeky of him not of offer both versions for the same price and because of that principle i wouldnt buy it. ______________________________

After playing around with Logic Express for a few months on and off and realising the lack of orchestral sounds already in it, have decided to go for Garritan Personal Orchestra after listening to some demos. The base sounds may not be as glossy as some but they seem on the demos, particularly those with decent reverb, to be of consistent quality and easily controllable/articulated. Shipping should be tomorrow so hopefully will find out soon whether it will work in practice!

I think you'll find GPO is extremely good value for money, and even if you later end up buying a more expensive and detailed orchestral library, it's still worth having, especially for quick mock-ups.

This library looks interesting:
http://lascoringstrings.com/ Apparently it's nearly ready to be released. The one demo available sounds spectacular to my ears. ______________________________
