All of a sudden, I have a massive problem with my macbook/Logic setup
It can't even record one audio track without 'overload/system too slow' errors popping up. It gave in after 3 minutes of recording. Eventually I got the whole track down, but it now gives me errors playing the track back with an eq,compressor and beat counter plugs. This is ridiculous... Anyone got any ideas on how it can go from being fine one day, to being just about useless the next ? |

It seems regular operating system maintenance is necessary on a macbook to keep it running fast. Have a look at the message posted by "mac57" at the following page;

Firstly, you say it's fine one day, then "..useless" the next.. was there anything significant that you did in the time between, that you may have overlooked..?
Secondly, can you supply a spec on your Macbook (OS Version, Ram, Processor etc) and advise if you are streaming your audio from the internal Mac drive (not a good idea) or a connected USB or firewire drive? Thirdly, it needs to be established wether your problem is 'song specific' ie does this problem occur only in the song you are currently working on. Maybe load up a previous song you've had no problems with, and/or a 'new' song and test some audio recording and playback in that? ______________________________

ok. Good shouts there..
It's a macbook 2.2 dual core 2008 spec with 2 gig of Ram. I have the latest patches for Logic and OSX 10.5 I was recording and playing from the internal drive. That said, I have run much bigger projects (12 audio and 11 insts + fx) from the internal drive before, with no significant issues. The only thing that was different about this recording, is that it was made digitally. I was sampling some old vinyl and used the spdif output of my stanton str8 100 deck to connect into my sapphire. I've closed the session,rebooted and it seems ok now. I'm assuming it's a random glitch somewhere... |
