I have had a ballache and a 1/2 getting and installing Logic 9.0.1 tonight.
For the record of any non regulars that might google upon this. I have bought my Logic software. But for whatever reason, the installer and mac auto software update won't acknowledge the fact I have Logic9 installed. This video won't be of any good to you if you are running Logic with a blacklisted serial etc. Only if you are in the same boat as me. You need a valid and registered serial to get hold of the file manually. For any powers that be. I've done nothing wrong by not using the installer. My copy of Logic 8 appears to be a retail box, and I bought a retail upgrade. It is a fault with the installer and/or OSX that made me resort to doing things the slightly harder way. This guide is meant for use by genuine (and frustrated) customers, not as a way of circumventing Apple's copy protection system (ie distributing the whole app and content suite via optical disc and printed serial only). What I'm showing here is only how to do the job of the installer when the install process doesn't work properly. So anyhow, I decided to have a snoop around the update installer and was quite surprised. I managed to extract the application manually. The update is actually a full software build; the installer just dumps it over your Logic 9.0.0 file. You will have to do this yourself, but otherwise all is in order. It will pick up your license/serial, any previous Logic content etc.. Vid coming shortly....when Youtube decides it wants to work ! |

Actually...'small' snag..
It now won't open older Logic files. Even 9.0.0 files generate an error and fail to load. It will however, happily let you create new projects from scratch. Will look into it 2, and let you know which supporting files need to be replaced as well... |

Hello
Sorry to hear of your problems Ed. I downloaded the updates this morning from this page: http://www.apple.com/confirm/logicstudio/osx.html and all went smoothly. Maybe a call to Apple will help you? You must still be in your 90 days? Good luck! ![]() ______________________________

I did indeed call Apple, and did indeed get some answers.
First problem. The installer will only look in a specific location, for a specific file name. This being it looks in 'Applications' for 'Logic Pro'. I had moved my Logic8 and 9 files into seperate folders within Applications, as well as renaming them Logic8 and Logic9. This is why the system and installer failed to see that I had the app. 2nd. Manually unpacking the installer rarely works (according to Apple). The installer also updates other files related to the main app. This is why it now fails to open older projects. The solution? Delete my 9.0.1, then use the original Logic9 installer to go back to 9.0.0 the way that Apple intended. It should then be easy to get the update to work... |

So you had to reinstall Logic 9.0? That sounds like a lot of (what should have been) unnecessary work.
But ... are you up and running ok now? ______________________________

Yep. Had to reinstall Logic 9. Annoyingly, the app itself is only around 232MB, so that would have been done fairly rapidly. But the installer insists on installing some content with Logic, which is another 7-8GB of data...
However, after firing Logic 9.0.1 up for the first time last night...it just kept crashing constantly, All I had running was one audio loop and an EXs. NO effects etc....and it died everytime I tried. |
