Default Thoughts on Space Designer / Waves IR1 / Altiverb

Hi All

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts or comparisons between these three major “players” in the software reverb world?

Frankly, I have been stunned by the high quality of Space Designer. I use it for just about all my reverb needs, it sounds lush and warm and it usually just what I want. Occasionally I use the UAD Plate 140 on a vocal line.

I also have the Waves IR-L reverb and have to say that I use it very rarely because Space Designer is easier to use and sounds warmer.

I have heard very good things about Altiverb but have never used it.

… but I am not a Pro (not yet anyway )

I was just wondering how each of these were being used in the real world. Anyone using Space Designer for real?

A little bump for your question I don't use them (sorry) but would like to hear peoples opinion on them. I would have thought you cannot possibly go wrong with any of them (as your positive experience with Space designer implies) but then again I have not used any of them before so yes if anyone can compare please do

Space Designer is an incredible tool and is pretty much what I use as well. Sometimes it can seem a little daunting but figuring it all out is part of the fun, right?

Space Designer is a great piece of kit.

The only thing is that, I don't really use it that often. I tend to go for gold or plat verb. They do a good job of computing realistic reverbs, which uses less cpu then the convolution process that effects like Space Designer run.

The thing I like about Space Designer though is that you can eq the sound passing through it. So if you use it properly as a send/return efect, you can easily tamper and fix any problems with the reverb sounding heavy or clouding parts of the mix.

Really haven't tried too many reverbs, but in Logic, Space Designer is my favourite. Really would like to A/B those.

So +1 for Space Designer

Thanks guys.

I have been using SD a lot – I very much like it’s sound. To my ears there is a certain warmth to it that suits my music well.

It’s just that you hear such a lot about Altiverb (which is more expensive than Logic Pro!) I just wondered if it was really worth the money IF you already had SD in LP8.

I have Waves IR1 as well – and although it does sound good, it is more fiddly to use and doesn’t have any of the more “warped” IRs that are fun for sound design.
