Default Your favourite keyboard/synth sound of all time?

What's your favourite keyboard/synth sound of all time if you could only pick one?
I'd go with the Clavinet (D6) without a doubt!
Looking forward to everything from analog sounds from Moogs Arps etc. to digital presets like the hoover-sound!
If possible post sound examples:
YouTube - hohner clavinet D6
I'm sure there's better examples out there but this one will do!

Got a few, but the first two that sprung to mind are the Mellotron flutes, and I also have a soft spot for the Oberheim OBXa as used in Van Halen & Rush tunes from the 80's...

very very very hard call on this id say the wavestation wins this one because of the wavesequencing but the Prophet VS is only just behind. Unbeliveable synths and the sounds are just something else in my book, for when they were released they were damn impressive.

Terminal 3, I second that!

The OB + the Minimoog is a killer combination, and Geddy Lee is the king!!!

If there's a better multitasker in rock n' roll I haven't seen 'em.

Rush even brought in some 'Trons on their latest record ('Snakes & Arrows') after not doing the keyboard thing for the previous couple records.

Edit: and I just heard that it's Geddy Lee's birthday today. Happy 55th, you crazy bass-keyboard-singer-bass-pedal-sampletriggerrer-player, wherever you are!

Hey Marc
Yeah, that T.D. choir seems familiar, and has close similarities to the lead sound on Art of Noise's "Moments in Love".. TD's is legato and of course the AON's is staccato, but I'm pretty sure they're one and the same... And did I spot some Art of Noise drum hits there too....?

Agreed. Swithches effortlessly between bass and keys while singing. Not many can do that.

Have seen them last year in London, amazing 3-hour show for a trio of over 50's. And Geddy played a real Moog Lil Phatty atop a Roland Fantom X, instead of the usual MIDI controllers.

Wow, he retired his Yamaha KX76? I think he got one when they were brand new and had been using it right up until the 30th anniversary tour, which was the last time I saw them...

Saw him using the Moog on the Colbert Report performance though, which was cool!

And then there's this -

Anyway, we're way OT now. Great synth sounds though!!

LOL that video was hilarious.

And speaking of plastic toys...

Got myself a Kaossilator recently, there's an amazing lead sound in it. Actually the whole thing is surprisingly fat and punchy, have it hooked up thru the inputs of my shiny Korg M3 and the sounds are of almost equal quality. Weak acoustic sounds though but again, the Kaossilator was designed for electronica.

Have to go with the TB-303 myself. Changed the way music was made, even though it was pretty much an accident.

I have a few but the one that does it for me is on Spandau Ballet's True. i just love the modulation on it.... I think it is a pro 5 from what i have managed to dig up on the net... But i may be wrong.

I would love to recreate this sound so if anyone has any ideas let me know

As a lead sound, I would have to say Michael Brecker's (R.I.P) Steiner EWI linked to a Oberheim (Matrix 12) on the Steps "Magnetic" Track "In a Sentimental Mood" and Pat Metheney's Synclavier Flugal Lead on "Are You Going With Me " (Pat Metheney Band "Travels"). For Pads there is a really interesting Mellotron String sound on Steve Hackett's Spectral Morning - "The Fox and Lady" as well as Glider on Wavestation, The plethora of pad sounds on the JD990 with the JV Analog board fitted and anything Memorymoog and Prophet V.
