Patronize away Sureno if it get me working!

I confess I have not found EXACTLY that route but I fear I might be stuffed before I start. Note the title ......Cubase SX-SL-LE. No SE3!

But I shall give it a do and let you know.

Thanks Sureno,

Your two quotes seem to confirm my suspicion that SE3 is a ripoff! I shall just have to go for the upgrade.

Even if there were some workaround, re labelling the buttons, I would not be very happy since it would I think cause endless confusion re Samplitude which I want to retain for many of its functions, easy input/output selection, excellent meters and realtime analyser to just name two.

BTW, just worked out the friends thing!

Dave.

also if you did customize it, it will be awkward if you decided to upgrade later down the line. Well looks like there marketing theory worked forcing you to upgrade even though being in a shotgun fashion. Well who knows may be upgrading will open more avenues up? LOL @ the freinds thing
Good luck Dave

Morning all.

Well, the bullet has been bitten and Cubase Essential 4 upgrade ordered.

Going to be ten days or so coming from Steinberg, ah well, just hope it is worth the wait!

Bit of an update.

After much printouting and headache I have established 2way working with Reaper, running on a 4Gstick!

Since Reaper is less than half the price of SE3 Steinberg should be ashamed of themselves!

I really don't know why more devs are not offering versions of their software that can run on a USB stick. You can easily run an entire OS on a USB stick now. I would be very interested in a smaller version of Sonar that can run off a USB stick for instance.

That pretty much sums up most of my interactions with Steinberg and was another of the contributing factors on my eventually moving in to Ableton Live.

Hi Monarch,
The stick thing. Yes I find this fascinating and handy, e.g. We have an old HP lappy, runs Sam8se Fast track pro fine but because it is only 850mHz and 512 ram that is about it! Now son would like to use WinWorks on it (yes ok, but he is used to it and it came with a pc!). I copied Works to a 4G stick and ran it on the laptop but making sure to install everything ONLY back to the "E" stick drive.

Job's good 'un! Works works fine, stuff can be saved on the stick (still shedloads of room for text files) and the dinky 20G HDD can be kept free for audio.

Question: Taking the same stick and plugging it into another pc, without Works I had to re-install Works "on the stick again" IYSWIM. Once done the pc runs it fine as well and W does not appear on the HDD or in Proggs'. All I have is a shortcut on the desktop for Works which don't if you pull the stick, as you would expect. So why another install?

I have bought 2x4G @ £18 and 2x2G @ £12 from PCW, seem fine. Another question: Are the very cheap sticks in anyway inferior, eg speed, to the same capacity for 3x the price or are you paying for Posh, security gizmos and a name?

Having fun,
Dave.

Hi ecc83, heh...nice set up for the older HP laptop.

Not sure really. Strange.

I think you will get potentially better perfomance and more reliability out of better known brands. But that is just my opinion. If you are running Vista and want to use Readyboost...only certain types of USB flash drives will work with Ready boost but other types will be 100% fine for simple storage use.

My personal favourite is the Patriot Xporter. Their current offerings go up to 32GB but I think one can even get 64GB sticks or higher now.
