If we're talking hardware then its gotta be the morpheus i picked up from ebay, got it for £165 which is awesome, got some great sounds on it and some quite quirky ones too, although i would love to get my hands on a Prophet VS.

If we're incorporating software synths then id say it has to be Reaktor 5 if that can be counted? why? well the possibilities are endless if you have enough time on your hands. if not the close second is the Wavestation, that synth still sounds fresh to my ears even today, really doesnt sound like it was conceived in the late 80s

Default Vince Clarke's Fave Synth

Man, I gotta say it was my Sequential Circuits Pro One I had for about 7 years. Pure monophonic madness. I managed to 'Midi to CV' it with a Kenton convertor and that took it into another level for me. I know the basics of synthesis but aint no Jean Michel Jarre, however, I got some crazy s**t outta that baby!

I've only really started being interested in synths in the past couple of years, so the only one I've owned is a microKORG. It's very good for a entry level synth (I found) and I love the vocoder and editing capabilities. Shame that they limited the number of dials, meaning that to edit something you have to keep re-checking how to edit portamento, etc.

I've been looking at the Juno 106 for a while, but I've heard that some of the models produced have a faulty sound chip, which has been putting me off.

It wasn't really a big problem, though a lot of Junos I've seen on eBay are from the faulty batch. Wiki article says: "According to a former Roland technician, some of the voice chips may die naturally but the majority were traced to a couple of bad chip lots (with lot #41 being the worse)".

The main thing stopping me from buying a Juno right now is the price. I'm only a student, and £300-450 is a big investment for me. Especially when I need to buy other more important things.

I really love my jx3p. I got it for peanuts because of a faulty output jack... rest of it is in mint condition. Its a very brittle sounding synthesizer and not very goodfor lush pads, but what it does do it does well. other than that I once used a yamaha CS80 that was being used by a band I was recording. i swear that thing is haunted... a truley magnificent synth!

Ive had a Korg T3 which I dearly loved.

Korg T3 Synthesizer picture

It was the fattest sounding digital synth I have ever played, including the Oasys.

i never knew the t3 sounded fat ive used korg m1s which are basically the samething and the m1 wasnt as good as id hoped.sure its got the classic italian house pianos and alex partys read my lips organs but the basses sounded pretty weak too me when we used one they had too compress and boost the bass big time too make it usuable for what we wanted it for.

ill have too check out some youtube videos off the t3 to hear what it sounds like maybe we just had a bad sound engineer who hadnt turned the audio out volumes up maybe thats why it sounded weak.

ive heard the samethings about the yamaha cs80 ive never played one but mates whove used it say its got a life off its own.once you start creating sounds on itthe synth seems to know what you want straight away then istead it gives you something which blows you away.

i tried out a demo off the sylenth 1 last night thats one of the best vsts iveever played its got some brilliant filters and also its got the blade/new order sound as a preset !!!

if anyone gets a chance to demo it do you wont regret it.
