Default Ex studio equipment - new license needed?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying some recording equipment from a tender sale. Basically the kit sounds good (although I can't view it until 29th June) but the website states I need a license to run it... can someone tell me if I'll need this for a small home studio? There's an application link but it doesn't really tell me what I need to know or costs etc...

I found it here:

cheers guys

Hi and welcome.

I think the licensing issue has to do with your wanting to buy radio mics (although you didn't mention that) and the frequency changes because of digital TV. See my topic Wireless mic licences from July 2012 and DV247's Wireless Systems: Are You Ready for 2012?.

The simplest answer is that you will find that most pro kit uses Channel 38 for which you need a licence and most amateur gear uses Channel 70 for which a licence is not required.
