Talking Hiya and HeeeEEEELP!

Hello Lovely Helpful People,
I'm the new girl. Nice to meet you.

I'm home studio shopping and wondering which Presonus (or other brand) quality AUDIO INTERFACE you would recommend for my purpose:

The most I would probably ever want to record at one time is with

one vocal mic (Rode NT2a)
three instrument mics (=Rode NT5 pair and another Rode condenser mic)
a guitar (via jack)
a keyboard = requires midi input (and output? = to play live and record instrument sounds from Logic with).
My audio interface budget is around £300, but I'm open to spending more if it's worth it.
I mostly use Logic, and have a new Mac desktop.

Also, which 88 or 70-something note KEYBOARD would you recommend for live piano gigs, recording piano sounds and sometimes strings etc? Budget between £130 to around £300, or more again if definitely worth it.

Thanks so much good people!

X Ms Mu

Hiya, good to have ya. Nice to have some weight to the X-Y balance again.

Check this thread out:

The "Which Audio Interface To Go For?" for between £100-£200 thread

There is some good advice in there if nothing else-and do a quick search for 'Audio interface' in the search section brings up more specific topics.
There is plenty of good advice here, some good people and a few (well at least 2) clowns-but they're generally nice people too

Wilty's advice to check out that thread is spot on... some very good advice in there.

Regarding the keyboard... there's not going to be much choice within your budget, but it'd be a good idea to visit a DV store and actually try out some yourself... assuming you want weighted keys, possible contenders are:

I have an M-Audio ProKeys 88 and can attest that the weighted action is OK, if not quite as refined as more expensive options. I am a big fan of Korg's RH3 graded action weighted keybed that they employ on many of their keyboards (in my case, the M3-88) so you might want to check out a Korg SP-250 even though it's above your budget.

Hiya you two,

Thanks so much for replying

I checked out the Audio Interface thread and it's all a bit much really!

Maybe what's easier is if people out there tell me what they've got and if they like it -
Has anyone got the M Audio 2626 or a Presonus firewire?
Are they any good? Please let me know!

Ta for the Keyboard links. I think I'll just have to go to the shop to have a play as suggested

I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Profire 2626.. Have been using it for months now and it's extremely powerful, flexible and performs faultlessly. It integrates with Logic very well and of course will allow Pro Tools (M-Powered) usage down the line should you wish to persue.

Welcome to DV Forums by the way..

If you use firewire then you need the TI chipset otherwise you're going to have problems. Presonus have more firewire problems than the Profire.

The 2626 is a cool box for not a lot of money. I think bang-for-the-buck=very high with that one.
