Default Hi, from John

A moderator suggested I introduce myself here, having already posted a couple of times on other threads. How rude of me just diving in like that!

My signature contains links to web sites I've put together that tell you more about me, but essentially I'm a guitarist "advancing in the vale of years" having first started playing guitar back in the 60s. My musical tastes were forged by seeing my first live bands, in my case they were The Kinks, Yardbirds, Who and Jimi Hendrix. To say I was blown away by them as a youngster is not just an understatement - it shaped my whole life.

Someone was taken aback recently when I mentioned I'd been in the front row of a Hendrix gig, but I guess after all this time and the continued interest in his great playing it must seem pretty cool to some! All that sparked an interest in blues of course so I'm a die-hard fan of the three Kings - BB, Albert and Freddie. It's no surprise that my playing style owes a lot to their licks with as much Jeff Beck and Peter Green as I can also impart!

Back in the 60s my parents insisted I forget about music as a career and insisted I get a 'proper job', so I trained and became a Chartered Accountant. For some years I've owned a successful security company with two partners (alarms, CCTV, access control, etc) but eager now to bow out early, move to Cornwall, have that dream studio at last, and twiddle with guitars and gear to my heart's content!

I play in a band, The Skyline Band, and also have a modest home recording studio:

(The pic needs updating - the synth is now a Roland Fantom X6.)

I kitted out my first studio back in 1997, with a car load of purchases from Digital Village Birmingham, when they were in their previous premises. A guy called Paul gave me a lot of help as I hadn't the faintest idea how to put it all together. Is he still around I wonder? I've used DV for a lot of my purchases since, and only last week acquired a luvveerly Amercian Standard MN Olympic White Strat from them. (Eagerly awaiting my free Fender Champ amp that goes with it, Nick!)

There - I think we must be properly introduced by now!

Hi John and welcome to the forum. Your recording space looks very organised and comfortable indeed! I have a Fantom too, I have the X7... great board.

The Paul you mentioned from the DV Brum store sounds like it might just be Paul Taylor who I have found to be one of the most helpful people I've ever dealt with.
