Default Public Enemy Remix Contest

Just waiting to hear from M-Audio UK if this competition is open to UK residents...

One of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, an industry-leading music company and a culture-defining art brand—Public Enemy, M-Audio and Obey—challenge you to remix an a cappella version of the critically acclaimed Public Enemy track “Harder Than You Think” (from their latest album How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul).

Chuck D and Johnny Juice of Public Enemy will judge the entries and determine the winner of a complete home studio setup from M-Audio. The winning remix will also be officially released on Obey Records in the form of a 12” vinyl, featuring an exclusive vinyl label design by Shepard Fairey. All profits from the vinyl sale will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of America. Side B of the vinyl release will feature an exclusive unreleased Public Enemy track.

The contest will run from July 1, 2008 to September 30, 2008.
The grand prizewinner will be announced in late October.

Grand Prize Package:

M-Audio Home Studio
Package includes Studiophile BX8a Deluxe monitors, Pro Tools M-Powered software, ProjectMix I/O control surface, Sputnik vacuum tube condenser microphone, Pulsar II Matched Pair condenser micro phones and Ozone 3 mastering software (valued at $4,500).

Limited-Edition 12" Vinyl Release by Obey Records
The wining remix will be officially released on Obey Records and sold through Obey’s distribution channels. Shepard Fairey will design an original label; 500 pieces will be produced, with all profits donated to the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Complete Set of the Obey Public Enemy Collection
Collection includes two different t-shirts, a military-style jacket, a hooded sweatshirt, three different hats and lace locks (valued at $500).

1) Download the a cappella version of Public Enemy’s “Harder Than You Think.”
2) Create an original remix to the accapella of “Harder Than You Think.”
3) Complete the Remix Contest Registration section below and upload your remix entry.

Whether we can enter or not, an acappela version of a song given away with the consent of an artist and record label? That's like a holy grail for indie remixers.

Just to confirm, it's a worldwide competition - anyone can enter from the UK and other countries.

Heck we might even be able to find a prize for the best UK entry if the winner comes from another country...

Extra points for gratuitous yeaaaah boyyyyyz samples?

This is great news from M-Audio UK.

So if a UK entry does n't win the grand prize, M-Audio UK will offer a prize to the best UK entry!!!!

Here at DV, we hope a UK entry wins the grand prize to highlight the creativity and talent of the UK's hip-hop musicians, engineers, producers and remixers and the second best UK entry also wins a prize from M-Audio UK!!

C'mon England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, get your samplers / DAWs / MPCs etc out and get creative - let's showcase UK talent and win this thing....

I've started work on a remix, and the idea I've got in my head is actually good, though I'm gonna have to stretch my abilities to pull it off. I spent 20 minutes just getting the first four bars how I wanted them, so this could take me a while to make.

Btw, Maudiouk, just a quick thing which I've seen, but I dunno if you can alter it. In where it says what the grand prize package is, it says "The wining remix". Not exactly a major error, but seems a bit unproffesional.
